Added 2021-12-07 00:37:19 +0000 UTCMy copy of Neon Genesis Evangelion bluray finally came in! And I'm probably not gonna watch it for a while until I'm in the right mood to sit down and watch it all! Instead, I've been going through Future Boy Conan, which has been absolutely fantastic. If you've seen anything from Hayao Miyazaki, you will definitely find blueprints for that work within this TV series. Not just themes, but little animation quirks, like seeing Conan's facial expression while gripping onto something being similar to Lupin's in Calgiostro (which came out a year later). It's also an incredibly well animated show for 1978. It doesn't reach the levels of theatrical animation at the time, of course, but if I were to make a comparison, I'd say it'd be akin to an HBO levels of quality compared to something you'd find on broadcast TV. Definitely check it out if you're a fan of Hayao Miyazaki.
