Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered sure was a fucking disappointment. Back when it came out in 2004, I was lucky enough to have enough friends, GBAs, and GC - GBA link cables to play with a full 4 person team, and it was a lot of fun. Going through dungeons and trading stuff we found that could be sent to our families back home in letters, using teamwork to figure out the map/treasure locations/enemy weaknesses, having someone be asked a question during a between level cinematic and getting annoyed when they chose the wrong answer, and so on. It was a lot of fun. The remaster effectively removes all that. No longer are you traveling in a caravan, but you're playing single player with the option to include people in a dungeon. You don't all get letters at the end of a dungeon, only the host gets the actual clear for the dungeon while nobody else does, and you have to boot everyone out if you want to do a different one. Plus you can't go into town with your friends either. And because of that you can't gamble with your friends on cow races. I was really hyped up to replay this with a group of friends, but fuck. Square managed to turn a fun multiplayer game with a mediocre single player mode into a mediocre single player game with highly frustrating multiplayer additions. I can only hope they go back and patch things to find workarounds for these issues. Worst case scenario I can always bust out my gamecube and get friends together to play the original. Just would've been nice to do it online without needing to figure out best time for people's schedules to meet up in person. I only see friends in person like 6-8 times total all year, so playing a lengthy RPG over multiple sessions is difficult to do now.
