I feel like I've been too negative for too long in these blog posts, so I'm gonna try to be more positive in them. Having the new mac mini at work has been such a fucking help. Sooooo much faster doing practically everything. No longer having to wait for the computer to save, or print, or load things, or to even turn off. 95% of the time now is just does it. Only major issues now are really just growing pains of having to get used to Illustrator 2020 as I've been using CS3 all these years, but that's something that will get easier with time. Recently I've been going through my anime backlog of things I had purchased physically. Most of which were $5 dvd boxsets from Sentai Filmwork's ridiculous DVD purges. One of which was Engaged to the Unexplained, which apparently had meme status in some anime circles back when it came out? I knew jack shit about it, but it looked like it could be cute and chill, and for $5 why not? What I wound up watching was something that could be best described as "What if I wrote a story about a girl hooking up with a UMA?" In all seriousness, despite the title making it obvious, I didn't really know it was about some high school girl getting engaged to a wolfman. And the entire time it kept pulling the same kind of twists I would do when writing a story: everyone is pretty chill about shit and the story just continues. Things that would've had a two to three episode arc with stereotypical drama winds up getting settled rather quickly. Even if the entire truth is told to a character, they more or less go "Oh, okay," and the story moves on. It played with my expectations by making its characters nonchalant. Hell, it even skirts the line at times, making you think it's gonna play it straight, only to take a massive u-turn. At one point there's this girl UMA (I assume she's a wolfgirl but they literally never show their beast/wolf/dog forms at all), and she remarks how her mom told her to marry the first guy she could find because their kind are very few in numbers. You think this is gonna become this whole love triangle bullshit, but then it doesn't. It was refreshing. I also watched Yuyushiki, which is more high school girls being silly and not really doing much. Its twist was the girls are in the "research" club or something, which just means occasionally you see them googling stuff in the club room, but entire episodes go by where they don't even do that. Followed the standard 3 girl format of really silly/dumb girl, lesser silly, and straight man. But then it kept going on about how this 4th girl who wants to be friends with one of the trio, but is intimidated by the other two. But that girl has two friends with one of them not wanting her to be friends with the others. But the main trio also want to be friends with her or something? It kept coming up and I honestly didn't care for that junk. Otherwise the show was middle of the road. Was fine. Probably a C-C+ effort. And it was $5, so not a huge money sink.
