Marduk Sedras: Character Work Flow

A student request (this is for you Keith), this video concentrates on developing a work flow for characters. How do we push simple techniques into character levels? How do we adapt infantry painting to a higher skill level?

Enjoy the video.

Depends how dirty you want it. If you go for the all over filter oils for filthy marines you'll want to pull some off the highest points to create focal points and whatnot. If you went super-targeted you might be able to get away without cleaning.

The way I’ve done them with Myles in the past is to use them as a stain/weathering on metallic parts then wait for them to cure a bit then take a cotton bud to the upper/protruding surfaces. Although this has been for 54mm plus scale stuff (eg this dude https://www.instagram.com/p/B2yNNZEHA_P/ ) rather than smaller scale stuff. That’s where the question is coming from.

Generally you only need to clean oils if you get them on places you don't want them. If you're careful like here you can get away with not cleaning them.

So after the oils are you just sealing it with varnish & then highlighting? Rather than using cotton buds/sponges to remove the oils from prominent parts to produce the first highlight?
