Update 08/09 - Progress is very good

AY

Two weeks have passed.
And yet, I don't have a whole lot to talk about, other than that progress is being made.
I am now reaching the video's final set piece.
Whilst the audio isn't quite done yet and is being continually edited as the animation itself is being done, I can confirm that the video will more than likely be somewhere between 35 to 40 minutes in length.
And, as I've stated in previous updates, I'd like to reaffirm that, thus far, it's probably my favourite video to date.
The editing has been real heavy, the video being both long and filled with a lot of character actions and effects, but due to it being so much fun to work on, I find myself very happy working on it in spite of the intense workload.
By my estimations, the video should be done in early to mid September, unless something horrible and unexpected happens (if it does I'll make sure to inform you).

Meanwhile, to keep you occupied, I am going to try my best to release a Short this month.
I've currently got two Shorts shored up, I just need final voicework done for both of them.

I've also started reading the first Gaunt's Ghosts book because I'd like to review it in a future voxcast, and while chances are low I will get a response regarding this right here I thought I'd ask;  has anyone around here happened to have done proper book reviews before?
If so, please do leave me a message about how you went about the review when it came to stuff like recalling the story, taking notes whilst reading, what kind of ratings system you went for etc.
Any answers are appreciated and will help the format out!

And that is it for this time.
By the next update, I'll finally be animating the return of one thought lost.

Until next time, have a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like reviewing books but if someone wants a good read on the ship I loan the books I have out

Richard

It's been about fifteen days, do you have an update?

Psychopath

Oh my gosh a Gaunts Ghost review! HYPE! Man if any regiment in the Entire Imperium needs to be discussed by the Man Emperor of Mankind and his Primarchs then it needs to be Taniths First and Only

Parker Maisterra

Don't have much in the way of assistance for doing a book review, but I'm very excited at the prospect of a TTS review of Gaunt's Ghosts - I love the series, I'm so grateful to my brother-in-law loaning me the first 6 books to introduce me to WH40k lore.

is that warhammer fantasy role play i see in the picture? i think iv'e still got that lying around somewhere though mine has a different cover, did they release multiple versions or did GW just do a re release like for rogue trader?

Markopolo

If its good enough for you, Alfa, its good enough for me. We'll all be glad you release quality content. So don't you go fussing over the quantity or frequency of releases too much. Thank you for making Warhammer 40k so much more entertaining for my friends and me.

I'm pretty sure he's messing with you. There are no 'terms of service' for written published material. That concept only applies to subscribing to a service, for example, Netflix. There are terms of service if you rent a car or purchase professional software etc... In many countries reviews of published material are protected speech and you can even use still images or clips legally with no fear of litigation. I don't know the laws in your country, but I'm pretty sure you're fine.

I and a friend of mine once did a point by point riff of the Good Guy by Dean Koontz, it's not a very good book and made for good riffing material. We never finished the book or even the first chapter. I still have the audio if you want to hear it.

I've reviewed stuff privately for people. I usually split it in two: technical and story. Basically: is it well written? And then 'how was the plot, did it drag on or cut off suddenly, and was it a satisfying read'. Notes, I just usually read a chapter and then wrote down my general stream of consciousness to edit into something readable later. But that's just how I worked it out.

I definitely second a Deff Squadron voxcast!

Trevor Bond

Thank you, this is very useful stuff!

Alfabusa

Sorry, what do you mean when you say 'the terms of service in the wording you use'?

Alfabusa

i have Reviewed manga before Just be Sure To Go Over the content of the book and be Careful not to Breach terms of service in The wording you use and you should be fine

Wait a second why do I see a tiny Magnus,tiny kitten,tiny Emperor,tiny Doran, and 2 fucksodes?

Generally you would break the book down into the beginning, middle and end of the story arc and analyze each section individually. Major plot points including the buildup and fallout can be discussed in depth while the minor plot points get rolled up into a summary. Each major section should include a discussion of the quality and style of the writing with specific references to plot details that support the argument you're making. A review does contain a lot of subjective opinions, but every subjective opinion needs to be acknowledged as such. Any factual claim that you're making needs to be backed up by a specific quote or at least be an obvious logical consequence of the events in the plot. So, to summarize: the review needs 4 distinct sections. An analysis of the beginning, middle and end, and then an overall summary to tie everything together. And it's funnier if you say 'fuck' a lot while you're doing this.

I’d kinda like a deff squadron voxcast, or something particularly orky. In fact, aside from some shorts, an early appearance from Graz and Vulcan, we really don’t have enough orky shenanigans in the show. Perhaps an ork themed voxcast is in order.

I recommend you watch anything from Krimson Rogue, he does book reviews and his system for it is pretty good. Notes... Well, just try to keep them in order of what's going on, keep page numbers and line numbers and you should be good.
