Honest Government Ad | Global Sumud Flotilla

Dear Patrons

Here's the latest Honest Government Ad!

Honest Government Ad | Global Sumud Flotilla

This one is about the Global Sumud Flotilla - the largest civilian maritime mission to Gaza, to date, comprising 50 boats, with hundreds of people from 40+ countries - in an attempt to open a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.

It's a historic moment of international solidarity, as world governments are proving completely unable (or unwilling) to enforce international law in Gaza. So this is our attempt to lend a hand from afar.

It's an incredibly dangerous mission. And I am inspired by the people who've put their lives on the line; doctors, lawyers, actors, artists, activists, members of parliament (some Italian MEPs, of whom I am proud). And even a mum from Hobart joined the flotilla the other day!

Thank you as always for your support. Being 100% independently supported by our Patrons, as we are, makes it possible to make content like this which is often silenced and censored on both mainstream and social media. And judging by the comments we're receiving, this is hugely appreciated by the Juice Media's audience out there, too.

As for the video, you've probably noticed a few new things:

1. The actor! We're stoked to welcome Sarah Bartolo as our guest-actor. Sarah has been fearlessly making satire about Israel and Gaza on her Instagram, so I invited her to host this HGA. And I think she nailed it! Please give her a follow if you're on insta!

2. The short / vertical format!

The vertical format makes videos more easily shareable on instagram, where the Global Sumud Flotilla is being followed most prominently.

And at 90 seconds, it's designed to be a "reel" (which reaches a wider audience). It also means we were able to produce it in just a few days. (And because of the 90 second limit, I wasn't able to include the producer credits - apologies)

So this is an example of the fast, quick-response HGAs I mentioned, which I hope to make from time to time, to cover unfolding events in a more nimble format.

Let me know what you think? Personally, I DON'T like vertical videos! I prefer the traditional horizontal format! But I recognise the benefit of doing some videos this way. So we're giving it a crack and we'll see how it goes.

nb: there is currently no horizontal version of this video. (I am trying to resist the temptation to make one as I want to start work on our next HGA!)

Until then, take care
Giordano

Sarah Bartolo nails it. I don’t insta, otherwise I would follow. Good to have a new actor on board.

Giordano - Vertical vs horizontal is generational. I have found that the younger you are the more likely you are to be on your phone watching video feeds of TikTok, Instagram, Reels, etc. The algorithms feed the hooked with content that creates longer and longer presence on a platform. I am also guessing that the average age of participants in forums and Zoom calls fighting the USA Christofascists is around 70. We need to reach and wake up youngsters that have no clue where this world is heading. My recommendation is to make Vertical, 90-second max, your primary video vehicle going forward. Then make a horizontal version that runs credits and fund raising in the margins left (and right:-) by the vertical HGA. Us old farts can be your primary source of funding, but we need people under 60 to win this war and save the planet for our children and grandchildren. There are companies that can help you game the algorithms to increase views. PS: People who are hooked to their phones tend to do complex business on their phones. This can give you an advantage when dealing with people who never take the time to work on a computer or print something out to highlight and analyze which is a cool and normal way to gain an advantage and kick some ass!
