Dear Patrons
After a magical trip to British Columbia (more about that below), we're back home—and we've wasted no time in jumping straight back into work.
Here is the audio preview of our latest Honest Government Ad - Visit Norway!
As always, you're the first to hear it and feedback is warmly welcomed (just a reminder that some things will only make sense once you can see the visuals).
We've had so many requests to make HGAs about various topics, including from other countries. And I thought we'd start off with Norway, since they're about to have an election on September 8.
Like Australia, Norway is a huge exporter of fossil fuels; as well as a wealthy, democratic country that ought to be leading climate action rather than investing in new oil and gas. Which is why people in Norway have asked us to help them put an international spotlight on Norway ahead of this crucial election.
Does this mean we're back in production mode after our break?
Yes it does! This is the 1st episode of Season 4.
It also happens to be the 100th episode of the Honest Government Ads. Which is why I'm sharing this post with all members: please join us in celebrating this milestone with a big Skål!
I also want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience while we took a much needed break (seriously).
As you might recall, in August we travelled as a family to the Peace and Unity Summit on Gitxsan territory, in northern BC (Canada).
It was a powerful... I would say life-changing experience.
Our family was welcomed as friends by leaders of this beautiful, strong community. We were fed, housed, and looked after - according to Gitxsan custom for welcoming visitors.
We listened to land defenders, chiefs and matriarchs sharing knowledge and oral history. (The oratorship simply blew me away). But it wasn't just talk: this community is walking the talk, ensuring food security for present and future generations by living on their ancestral land (Lax y'ip) and telling the gas industry to piss off. We had the unique opportunity to participate in a Gitxsan gathering in the Feast Hall. All whilst being surrounded by singing, drumming, ceremony, and the sounds of kids playing and running around. (We took some Aussie Rules balls with us and taught Gitxsan kids to kick the ol' footy!)
And as if this hospitality was not enough of a gift, we were shown heart-warming gratitude for the work The Juice Media has done covering the gas shitfuckery in BC, Canada.
Like all life-changing experiences, I can't possibly do it justice in a short post. And to be honest, I'm still processing it all. But if there's one thing I'd like to convey to you in this post, it's how much people on the Gitxsan Lax Y'ip appreciate the work we do to support their struggle. Work which was made possible thanks to your support here on Patreon.
So I would like you to share in this, too.
If I can find the words, I hope to make a video about our trip, so that I can also share the footage of the beautiful land and rivers we saw. And if I don't, I know that the experience is already silently doing its work—by inspiring, healing and guiding our work going forward. (A bit like medicine).
I'll be back in the next day or two with the link to our 100th HGA (Visit Norway) once it's published!
Meanwhile, I'll leave you with some photos I took at the Peace and Unity Summit.
