Finished Up A Script

Hasn't been approved yet, won't be drawn for a little while, won't be announced for some time, won't be published until next year, most likely.

I'm holding on to all the story breakdowns I drew to pace the script, when I'm able to I'll scan them all and post them along with the script for the $5 and up tier. I'll be doing another script in June and, if things work out, I'll have some other work of this sort this year. All the materials will be posted once they're published as process posts.

Haven't written anything for a while, I felt very rusty and it was a pretty awkward process. The entire script changed focus because I ran into a brick wall on how to get certain points across. The plot pitch was pretty straightforward but things didn't work out that way when it came to getting the exposition across. Hopefully it works, there's things about it I like, things I'm not sure about. It's hard to get a whole story across in 8 pages, things can't breathe, especially if you plot pretty heavily, like I tend to. When I work on an anthology story the main thing I try to do is to write a good story. The other thing is to hopefully do something different, something that isn't repeated too closely in the book. I also enter a friendly competition with the other contributors. I want my story to be one of the better ones, to stand out. That's where The Eltingville Club came from, as well as the Murder Family and Beasts of Burden. They were all under 8 pages. If there's one thing I think I'm decent at, it's making a short comic story feel complete, not an instance or a few beats but an actual story. it takes more work but I'm okay with that.

Working on the script made me really want to get back to Beasts of Burden. I already have a lot done for the first issue, I need to carve out the time.

For now it's back to the drawing board. Four comics pages I'm drawing from someone's script, commissions, maybe some merch art if I can get to it before I get on the next script. And maybe some small drawings for sale, here and on eBay.

More, later, soon.

Thanks for the kind words.

This is exciting stuff! Also the comment about shorter comics that feel full is one of the huge reasons I personally love your work. Had to just do a short comic for a university project and I referenced you and your work a lot because it’s always so inspiring (I don’t think I’m anywhere at your level, but I gotta practice more!) To circle back, super excited to see where this goes :)

Finished things are the best things! Well done and looking forward to the results.
