I am very pleased to let folks know that I am the guest co-host for two episodes of The Good Friends Of Jackson Elias podcast, beginning this week with a discussion about RPGs and fiction, and how they're informed by one another.
The Good Friends is a podcast about the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, as well as horror movies, books and horror gaming in general. I've been a big fan of the podcast for years, after stumbling across it while looking for some less obvious influences on my writing for Beasts of Burden and Blackwood. It reignited by long-dormant interest in table top RPGS, especially the Call of Cthulhu game, which I had never played at the time (I almost did, twice, back in the early 90s, but by the time we got our characters rolled up it was too late to play).
Hosts Scott Dorward and Matt Sanderson (and, until recently, Paul Fricker) are knowledgeable, interesting and funny, and I was super excited (and nervous) to be asked to join them for these two recordings. Same goes for when I was asked by Scott to help playtest several of his Call of Cthulhu scenarios -- I finally got to play the game in my 50s, online. I loved it, as I knew I would). All of the Good Friends have professional experience working on RPGs and Call of Cthulhu, and the podcast-affiliated zine, The Blasphemous Tome, is licensed by Chaosium. I've provided artwork for the zine including a cover and hope to do some new art for them when possible (the zine is available to backers of the podcast's Patreon, of which I am one)..
The first episode is now available for listening, go to https://blasphemoustomes.com/2025/04/22/rpgs-and-fiction-with-evan-dorkin for the episode and blasphemoustomes.com for the podcast page. Even if you're not a TTRPG gamer you'll probably enjoy the talk.
Also, Scott Dorward was a guest on one of the Tear Them Apart video hangouts with myself and Paul Yellovich. You can find that video here:
I gotta run, I have a business Zoom call with a real big-time entertainment conglomerate at six. I have no idea what they want to talk about. Anxiety!
Bye bye for now!
