I recently got my comp copies of The Jack Kirby Collector #85 which features my cover inks over an previously unpublished Kirby pencil drawing, as well as a four-page interview I did about Kirby, his influence on my work and the Kamandi animated series bible/pitch that Sarah and I worked on for WB some years ago.
To my surprise the cover was printed like an animation cel, on clear plastic over a background. pretty nifty. The art was colored by Tom Ziuko. If I have it right, the issue should be in stores as of this past week. It's the Winter 2023 issue, as well as #85, cover price is $10.95.
Here's the solicitation copy:
"Jack Kirby Collector #85 brings to life "Kirby: Animated", detailing how Kirby and his concepts leaped from celluloid, to paper, and back again! From his 1930s start on Popeye and Betty Boop and his work being used on the 1960s Marvel Super-Heroes show, to Fantastic Four (in both 1967 and 1978), Super Friends/Super Powers, Scooby-Doo, Thundarr the Barbarian, and Ruby-Spears: it's the ultimate look at Jack's work in, and influence on, animation! Then comics and animation's Evan Dorkin talks about his Kirby inspirations and an abandoned Kamandi animated series. Plus our regular columnists, and from 2017's Baltimore Comic-Con: Mark Evanier celebrates Kirby's 100th birthday with Tom King, Walter Simonson, Mark Buckingham, Jerry Ordway, Dean Haspiel, John K. Snyder III, and the Kirby Museum's Rand Hoppe."

One aside, they ran a headshot picture of me in the magazine which I absolutely despise, and not just because I look lousy in it. It was taken by some guy at one of the worst conventions -- if not the worst -- we ever attended. A show so bad I wrote about it in my LiveJournal and swore off ever attending another Big Apple/National "event" (not a hard thing to do, to be honest). Actually, looking back at the LJ post, it was way more ranted than written. You can read about the super-rude guy who took pictures of Sarah and I at our table even after we asked him not to (normally we wouldn't mind, but he was obnoxious and was right up into our faces in a very tight space. We just got a bad vibe off of him from the get-go). Anyway, after that, the guy posts the photos online and puts them on our Wikipedia pages. We both look uncomfortable in the photographs (because we were). I really resented the photo being on my Wiki page (silly, I know, but it really ticked me off) and someone replaced it with another one after I mentioned it (which was nice). But the jerky guy put his back (which was jerky). And whenever someone tried to put a picture up to replace his, he'd post his again. He did this for a long time, it was creepy. For all I know the dumb picture is still up there.
Anyway, here's the LJ rant from 2008. I forgot how rantsy I used to be, if you think I rant nowadays, I'm a pushover compared to the blathering I used to pour out online: https://evandorkin.livejournal.com/176123.html
