I'm down to the last six (!) e-mails that I have to respond to or deal with, which is kind of amazing (!) for me (!!!). I'm terrified everyone I've written will write back all at once, but at least I'm making progress.
I just answered a letter that I received last September. It's embarrassing and stressful to realize a letter is that old -- I also replied to letters that were over a year old (let alone a commission, Zod help me, I'm getting them done, hold off on the drone strikes) -- but I would prefer to write someone back than toss their letter. I've always tried to answer all my mail, from the old days of snail mail on. Obviously I miss a few, and every once in a while there's a letter that's incredibly rude and demanding and I don't respond well to those. Or respond at all).
Anyway, attached to the letter was a quick and silly convention sketchbook doodle I had done for the correspondent at a NYC con back n 1991. I can't figure out what con it was, the letter writer says it was held at the Jacob Javitz Center (where NYCC is held, or unleashed, these days). Looking it up (can't trust my memory as far back as Thursday night, let alone three decades ago) 1991 was pre-Great Eastern Con, and it probably wasn't a Big (Crab)Apple show. Whatever, not important. But the memories, indefinite as they are, are pretty important, to me.
1991 was a big year for me, I penciled the Predator: Big game mini-series for Dark Horse, started on Bill and Ted for Marvel, and put out the first issue of Milk & Cheese with SLG. It was my first year working in comics full-time, I left my part-time jobs (JHU comic shop, Red Spot night club) and have been writing and drawing comics and stuff ever since. A lot has changed, but I'm still making stuff and getting by.
Despite my drawing such a shitty Predator. And I'm not talking about the one above.
