ART FOR SALE: 1994 Jack Kirby's Heroes & Villains Medusa Piece (My Inks Over Kirby Pencils/Copy)

EDITED TO ADD: This piece has sold, so I'm unlocking it so it's no longer exclusive to the Life's Great Rewards backers as an offer.  Thanks so much to the purchaser, thanks everyone for looking and I hope you enjoy/ed looking at the art in the post. Bye, Medusa!

The original pencils were published in the Jack Kirby's Heroes and Villains book from Pure Imagination in 1987, as part of a sketchbook Kirby presented to his wife, Roz, as a gift (the book has since been sold, broken up into separate pages which have been since resold). In 1994 Pure Imagination put out the Heroes and Villains Black Magic Edition, which featured all the pencil art inked by a number of comic artists. I was asked to participate (in 1993) and chose to ink the Medusa page. because I always liked Medusa. I was paid $75, and unlike many other contributors, I only had to ask for my check one or two times from the notoriously iffy Greg Theakston before I was paid. Some folks never got paid, if I remember correctly. I think Stephen DeStefano gave up.

For those in the know, the "Theakstonizing Process" didn't just mean bleaching and destroying comics for print, but avoiding paying people. Among other things. Comics!

The original piece measures 11" x 17" on then-standard Marvel Comics Bristol board. I miss that paper.

I recently sold the Jack Kirby Collector cover I inked (which hasn't been published yet, apparently collectors jump on the TwoMorrows covers as soon as they're revealed/posted), so, if you want a published Kirby original of some sort, and like my stuff, this is possibly of interest. Or not. For the time being, I'm only offering this to backers at the Life's Great Rewards level. I'm not 100% certain i want to sell it, but it's a moot point if no one inquires. it's the closest thing I'll ever have to a Kirby original, but it's hard for me to see it as such with my own inking on it, if you know what I mean. Even if it was published and all. It's got too much "me" in it for my own likes. I'm weird, I know.

I'm at evandorkin@gmail.com if you want to inquire. Otherwise I guess you can send a DM here and I'll try to remember people sometimes send me DMs here. Oh, or just say something in the comments. I can arrange overseas shipping, but the buyer has to pay the difference between the US Priority I'm folding into the price and the actual postage. The other piece went overseas. I guess I should add I'm not looking to trade anything for this piece, thanks.

I'm wavering, if you can't tell. But I also want to buy blinds for my studio, and am trying to replace my crappy art table. Uhhhh.

If nothing else, consider this an art post with some commentary, and you can see the lousy photocopy I was sent to work from. Comics!
