Milk & Cheese, Polka and WFMU! Behold: The Dance With Me Stanley T-Shirt

Anyone following my work for a while knows my allegiance to the world's greatest radio station (free-form or otherwise), WFMU. Located in Jersey City, NJ, available globally via their website https://wfmu.org -- featuring a host of show hosts and deejays celebrating all things audio, niches a specialty. You might not like what's being played when you check in, but if you come back in a while you might discover something that was missing in your life. And you might become a fan of a particular show, or a raft of shows. They archive everything and you can go through the playlists and see what there is to see. Punk, post-punk, new wave, no-wave, power-pop, metal, doom metal, AM gold, electronic, disco, oldies, standards, country, rap/hip-hop, found sound, classical, experimental, spoken word, comedy, interviews, monologues, soundtracks, WTF,  certifiably openly terrible recordings, psych, chimp rock, novelty records, the music of religious cults, gospel, reggae, funk, world, jazz, blues, wax cylinder recordings, throat singing and more. Between the archives and the current deejay lineups you'll find everything you can think off. 

And there's a polka show! Dance With Me Stanley is a one-hour show hosted by the wonderful DJ Stashu, every Friday at 6 PM (EST). I try to listen live every week because the show is a lot of fun and makes me smile often. Sometimes Stashu tosses in a 70s pop song or a Mexican dance tune or The Stranglers or something else from out of the blue, sometimes there is relatively little polka to be found on  a particular show, but the core of the show is indeed polka music. Frankie Yankovic, Walt Solek, Nicolas Nowicowski, Li'l Wally and many, many others. Accordions and oompah pah and kielbasa and pierogies and kishka and beer and all that good stuff. Sometimes slowed down or sped up when Statshu is on a candy high or goes nutty off the rails. Even if you're not a polka enthusiast -- I wasn't exactly a hardcore polkateer when I started listening -- it's a lot of fun and the listener comments board running throughout is full of silly stuff and nonsense as well. It's a little radio community and a pick-me-up. 

Anyway, I love the show and Stashu and Swivs are swell people and I was more than happy to draw an image for Stashu's DJ premium for this year's WFMU fundraiser, which features Milk & Cheese hoisting a few while admitting that yes, it was they, themselves, who are to blame for stealing the fabled kishka of song. I forgot that Winky the Pirate Cat makes a came in the background, so there's that, too.  I've been sitting on this design for a while now (I had originally wanted to get this done for last year's marathon) so I'm glad I can finally share it with folks.

The WFMU monthly donation "swag for life" page is up pre-marathon (I'm currently a $10 per month backer, thanks to you kind folks backing this Patreon). You can earn a DJ premium of your choice (i.e. the saintly M&C Stashu shirt) with a $10 monthly pledge (and get other stuff, too, iirc there's usually a regular WFMU shirt, a bumper sticker, etc at that level). If you're a regular WFMU listener this is a good option because it helps the station know they have a (mostly) dependable monthly cash flow coming in.

I'll post about it again when the marathon kicks off, and try to drop reminders when her show will be on, etc. This shirt will be exclusive to Stashu's show and will not be made available in any way other than raising funds for WFMU. 

This is my third marathon DJ shirt design, after the two that Saran and I contributed for Glen Jones and X-Ray Burns a ways back. Happy to pitch in again for my favorite radio station which has managed to remain independent, unsponsored and commercial-free because of the listeners and community.
