Finally finished this second take on M&C-meets-Shigeru Mizuki's Kitaro (and company). The original took me a very long time and I was really bummed out that the art went missing. The recipient. believed that the package was stolen, I forget the details -- but the package didn't reach the intended recipient. I told them to pursue the insurance, I don't know how that went. We have a very good history as far as mailing art goes, this is the only large package I can recall having gone missing. Recently an index card failed to make it to a customer in Mexico, but considering the mail shenanigans going on this past year or so, I consider myself lucky that's all that went badly (I already replaced the cards).
Because this commission was done for someone I'm friends with -- and who has done me a few good turns -- I promised to replace the missing art. It didn't take as long as the original because I had that to base the new piece on, having a scan of it that I could print out and put on the light pad. And I have a better selection of AD markers nowadays so the coloring went more smoothly. It's also a cleaner drawing, getting the likenesses done the first time was a lot of trial and terror.
I still have to redraw an enlarged Fun Strip recreation that was also in the missing package. So that'll be the third time I draw that piece. At least it's in black and white.
What a pain in the ass. I am happier with the new version, but it's not something that's good for the schedule.
Maybe I'll post a version for the print folks, lmk if anyone's interested. Put it to use. I have to check in with Sarah to brush up on how to do those myself. Trying to learn stuff to help this site operate a little more smoothly. Oy.
I've been wrangling the Pirate Cat about once every minute while trying to post this. She is being a complete pest, tearing up my office chair (and sometimes me), and knocking stuff off shelves. Eyeglasses, art supplies, phone, drawings, toys, dice, I can't clear the entire studio to Pirate-proof the joint fast enough and I am going out of my mind. I keep tossing stuff into the closet, into drawers -- I love Winky but she's driving me out of my tree. Might be time to bring up a little spray bottle with water in it, like we did with Nutmeg when she went through her trash-the-joint phase. Actually, according to news reports Nutmeg has been clearing the decks downstairs, like in ye olden days. Maybe the stress of a second cat in the house is making Nutty, er...nutty. I know I'm going nuts!
More soon later.
