I'm working on the last two commissions from the previous list, having finished up a Fun Strip recreation to go along with the M&C/Kitaro piece done for Zack Davisson. Above is an over-sized piece I've been adding to over the months. Below is the Fun Strip, which is several times larger than the original. I used to draw those really small, now I just draw them small. No wonder my eyes are bad.

Below is a blank cover sketch WIP of The Sinister Six.

I find drawing on blank covers really stressful, to be honest, and I often turn them down for commissions. I don't like flattening the book out, I don't like drawing on the raised surface, I worry about ruining someone's comic if an accident happens and I don't do loose sketches, so I sweat little details on the cover. On top of all that, the paper is usually not very good. But, then again, most commercial paper is crap, so I guess you get used to it. I'll never work with a nib on a blank cover sketch, that's for sure.
I did a rough to set things up using the light pad, but since I don't like laying the comic out flat too long, I'm only using it to trace off a basic template. I knew I wanted to change some of the character poses, I just wanted something to anchor the drawing and get some shapes down so I wasn't scribbling and erasing too much on the cruddy paper trying to find them. We'll see how it goes. I do love these characters, and drawing what you like always makes things more fun.

And here's a WIP from the new commissions list, one of two smaller pin-ups I'm doing.

Maybe I'll post the blank cover commissions I have scans of for the next post. There aren't that many, even if you count the ones done at conventions I don't have images for.
