"Eliza Maza was not quite an inventor, but she was very familiar with the works of David Xanatos. Familiar enough that upon finding a loose invention on the streets, she could instantly recognize this trinket was nothing like Xanatos's work. It was more roughly put together, like it was tinkered together in a garage, and not crafted, tested, or even manufactured with consumer intent. She had to see what this beam could do, as well as find out who made it. Nothing this custom built goes lost without some noise about it's absence.
She started with her car. She zapped it, but nothing seemed to happen. At first she was a little disappointed, but looking down, the tires began to fill rapidly, big enough to lift the entire car into the air. She ran for cover just in the knick of time...
B O O M !
The tires exploded, launching the car at least 10ft straight upwards before crashing right where it once stood. Maybe her car wasn't the right choice for a target. She thought that perhaps this was intended for something else. She zapped a street light out of curiosity, and the bulb that occupied the post began to swell like a balloon. Unlike the tires this light bulb hadn't exploded, and the bulb had started to lift the post from the ground. This gave her a sudden, likely dangerous idea. What if this was designed to make things fly? And if so, could she try it to fly up a building like her friends, Goliath, Brooklyn, Broadway, Hudson, and Lexington.
The only way to find out was to try it. She found a secluded building, and she tied herself down, tied to the roof. If she did float away she wouldn't get carried too far by the wind. It was the moment of truth. Holding her breath, Eliza Maza had zapped herself, square on her stomach..."
Recently, I rewatched the entire Gargoyles series. I love the first 2 seasons with a passion, and maybe I'll go see it again! Eliza Maza is a character I wanted to draw for a while too, and BlimpTober ended up being the perfect chance!
