Britney Goes Forth
Added 2024-05-31 19:02:00 +0000 UTC
Here it is: the fourth and final chapter of our Britney Spears saga, guided by the wonderful Eve Lindley. And Britney Spears is free to fly, fly away.
I work as an advocate for people with developmental disabilities and severe and persistent mental health issues that pose threats to the health and safety of themselves and others. A lot of these folks are under court-ordered adult guardianships or conservatorships. What baffles me about Britney’s conservatorship is that a judge and a court-appointed special advocate should have been monitoring her situation to ensure that she was not being exploited. Not to get all litigious, but I feel like she would have real cause to investigate the judge that oversaw her case. I smell something fishy there.

Great mini-series! I think a lot of millennials are at a point in their lives where they can replace, or get for the 1st time, the treasures from their childhood. Unlearning the expectations of others is another huge undertaking.

I can't remember which episode in this series mentions it, but I saw the Make America Great Again Britney, Lindsay & Paris T-shirt in the wild today and I had to tell someone!!

Again, thank you for doing this. It's a huge deal, and it makes such a difference to hear y'all say actually conservatorships might be bad, even with the best of intentions. Anyway, thank you for this.

Re 'Phones Are Good, Actually': Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Taylor Lorenz for joining the dots between the social-media moral panic and widespread COVID minimisation/disinformation. People who don't (yet) have a disability need to hear that the current return to 'normal' life is unsustainable, and that mass repeat reinfections will inevitably result in almost everyone developing Long COVID.
Let's not forget that the first thing cops do when they arrest masked pro-Palestinian protesters is confiscate those masks. They want protesters sick so they can't resist anymore.

Never thought I'd tear up at an attorney's comments, but her lawyer being the only single human giving her credit and recognizing her strength... It broke my heart.

I’m half way through this final episode, and my feelings on Britney have evolved - in a matter of days - from a kind of uneasy admiration / bewilderment, to… something much more like love, and a lot of anger on her behalf. Every time you rescue the story of a witch-hunted woman, some of the world’s more benevolent magic clicks back into place x

I think there is a large and generally unspoken presence of the evangelical church in Britney's conservatorship.
Evangelicals believe that women belong to their fathers unless they are married, and then they belong to their husbands.

AGREED! It is ON SIGHT for her entire family and all of those lawyers. I hope she has some legal recompense at some point because it is insane to me that this was allowed to happen without any consequences for these monsters.

I really hope that Britney has a good therapist and some real friends! That amount of isolation and for so long is heartbreaking and I can’t even imagine the impact on her. I agree with Sarah and Eve that I just want to feed Brit some cheeseburgers and take her to go see any movie she wants!

I went to the circus tour! Britney was incredible, the circus performers were incredible, and the pussycat dolls opened for her! I was 14 and definitely felt like it was her ‘comeback’ after everything that happened in 2008.

Love this!!! Any way you could re-mixdown the audio with the loudness higher and the music quieter? I'm unable to listen to it for long because I have to have the sound turned up so high and then ready to turn it back down. Looking at the comments, I'm not the only one with this issue, so I hope you'll be able to correct it! (honestly if you send me the session file from your DAW I could fix it for you if time is an issue! <3)

I have absolutely loved this series. I love Eve and Sarah and Britney 💗 This series also made me super sad though, its both the story of a unique experience that many of us can't relate to as we are not pop stars with the world watching, but also the story of an experience that so many women and afab people can relate to. Being perceived every day by men who shape you with their own desires and selfish needs, having your power diminished in a million ways every day by the patriarchy and also just living through girlhood and only in your later life having the information and frameworks to understand the ways in which you have been impacted and your opportunities for taking some power back.
I think for Britney it was a slow realisation through growing up and having access to ideas, having a supportive fan base who rallied for her!
For me it was people like Sarah and Eve and listening to conversations that helped me understand my life experiences in context.
Its a long journey to empowerment but I am so greatful for all the women/femmes in this world and the love and support we can share with each other 💕

I don’t understand why multiple heads didn’t roll over this. The attorneys involved should have been sanctioned if not disbarred. This adult woman was being forced to work for someone else’s benefit (God knows not her own). There’s a word for that. On a more positive note re late-bloomers and next acts, I’m marrying for the first (and, hopefully, last) time at the end of this summer at the age of 57. I plan to live and learn for as long as I’m breathing and spend as much time as I can listening to brilliant and insightful people younger than me. Which is why I’m here. Hopefully, after taking some time to heal, Britney can hit her stride in the coming years, whatever that looks like for her.

1:27:00 I've been on lithium and been in several psych inpatient stays, weekly blood testing is fairly routine in my experience. Psych meds can do a number on you even at routine dosages, and lithium in particular needs to be monitored to make sure it isn't accumulating in the blood over time Though in outpatient, I was having my lithium checked monthly, or 2 weeks after a dose change. Inpatient dose changes were definitely more aggressive. I'm not on lithium anymore, now another mood stabilizer, but I still get my blood checked every 3 months or so to check tabs on my liver and kidneys. Also, y'know, non-Rx drug testing...

Loved the episode (as alwaaaays)! I read the book, but Eve did a great job of contextualising everything and giving a lot of extra information (looooove the Britney legends/theories) and I dieeed when they were discussing Beyoncé and Britney (cause Im a huuuuuuuuuuuuge fan of both!). And I think it is very interesting that Beyoncé was able to get a year off as at that time HER FATHER was also her manager (and I think she fired him after the year off)!

I’ll never forget when my mom saw Britney in vegas, it must have been in 2013 or 2014, i was around 15 and i remember my mom saying “she totally sucked. she had no energy and the performance was lifeless, she was awful” and i remember having such an intense reaction of sorrow hearing my mom be so cruel to britney bc she felt like she didn’t get her money’s worth of britney the product. even before knowing anything abt the conservatorship i still felt in my bones that something was wrong and hearing my mom talk abt britney that way just broke my heart 😭
