Choose your own adventure with Carmen Maria Machado

As many of you know by now, I love talking about cheesy paperbacks with Carmen, and to my profound joy, Carmen wants to talk about more paperbacks with me.

There are seemingly endless possibilities, so we thought we'd open up the question to you all. Suggest a book you'd like us to talk about in the comments below--maybe something in the kid-setting-up-house YA vein we talked about in our last episode, maybe something by V.C. Andrews, maybe something totally out of left field. All I ask is that the title you recommend be, literally or spiritually, of the musty paperback variety.

We trust you. We can't wait to hear what you think of. And then, after you've had a week to comment with possible titles (meaning the polling ends after Saturday, August 12), Carmen and I will compile a totally biased and unscientific shortlist and have you vote on it in another Patreon post. Then we'll discuss the winner of the popular vote in a new bonus episode.

With love and mildew,

Sarah

UPDATE: Just wanted to share my deep affection for you brilliant grown-up young adults. These suggestions are all so amazing, and whatever books we don't cover, you can bet I'll be reading in a blanket fort in my room. (Dollhouse MURDERS you say???) Keep em coming <3

I’m late to this but I remember reading Joan Lowry Nixon musty Murder mystery paperbacks which an elementary school teacher had an abundance of in her classroom for some reason 😅

Ariel Ehrman

Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Green - they also did a made-for-tv movie starring Kristy McNichol. ; )
