SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1977) - Full Watch Along

No way. I could ever dance like that. This is funny. I grew up Mormon. My mother, didn’t like music other than disco. Ok. She bought this movie on VHS in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I was a pre-teen. She didn’t realize there was nudity and sex in the movie. Heaven forbid it portray real life. She hid the movie way up on the top of the kitchen cabinets so I (not my sister, just me) could not access its decadence. Should have found something higher. I didn’t see what the big deal was, even as a kid. Everyone’s so uptight about sex. Some of these “adults” are acting just as foolish as children. FYI. I’m not Mormon.

CoCo, I was thirteen years old when this film came out and having five older brothers and cousins that lived a very similar lifestyle as the characters still resonates with me. This film is much darker than most see especially younger people that didn't live through that time. Most people also forget or don't know that John Travolta was nominated for a Best Actor Award for "Saturday Night Fever". This was Gene Siskel's, the famous film critic (Siskel & Ebert), favorite film! This film had a very profound effect on him to the point that he even bought the "White Tony Manero Suit" at auction!! You mention the soundtrack several times and it was so good that it was the greatest selling album of all time until some little pop star with the initials M.J. came out with an "OK" album by the name "Thriller"!! I do recommend watching the squeal "Staying Alive" which I feel gets a bad rap for being a bad movie but in it you see Tony's growth and redemption! By the way, the minimum wage in New York City in 1977 was $2:30 and Tony's pay was $4 total and Travolta was twenty-three years old when filming "Saturday Night Fever". The blue shirt he put on lay-away at the beginning was the shirt he wore during his big solo dance and I am so surprised that you didn't seem to recognize Fran Drescher as Connie, the girl Tony left to do his big solo!

The soundtrack was a Hugh success for the Bee Gees. In fact the Soundtrack made more money then the movie. The movie generated $237.1 million in box office revenue, while the soundtrack sold over 40 million copies worldwide.
