I watched your full watch-along reaction to Casablanca. It was my first full watch-along ever. It was a quite a different experience than watching the your edited YouTube reactions.
You’re really quite insightful. I’ve seen Casablanca so many times, it’s hard to remember my own first time reaction, but I’m sure that you picked up on a lot more than I did the first time I saw the film. If you felt like you weren’t sure until the end if Ilsa would end up with Rick or Victor, you’re in legendary company. Bogart (Rick), Bergman (Ilsa), and Henreid (Victor) didn’t know either until the last day of shooting. In fact Michael Curtiz had not yet decided which way that would go.
Casablanca was never supposed to such a great classic. During shooting Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart thought it was a disaster. Michael Curtiz was revising the script on a daily basis. It was expected to just one of about 50 films that year churned out by Warner Studios. Someone forgot to tell Michael Curtiz who demonstrated a master class in film direction and film making.
If I might make a suggestion, consider watching it again. There are so many more details that most people don’t see the first time. Especially the directorial styles that Curtiz used.
Thank you for a great reaction!

If you're looking for another movie from that era with similar stellar acting I highly recommend the Alfred Hitchcock version of "Rebecca" with amazing performances by Laurence Olivier, the adorable Joan Fontaine and Judith Anderson (Australian actress). Another amazing piece of filmmaking and one of the earlier Hitchcock classics.
