🎁 Merry Christmas to you 🎁
Over the past month, I have been actively looking for an interpolator with a suitable algorithm for 2D animations, and finally I found something interesting.
To explain very briefly, interpolation can help artists to generate intermediate frames between two key-frames and the smaller the amplitude of the movement, the better the result. The interpolation technology itself is not new, it has appeared since the 90s, but in our time it has been significantly improved.
So far, the RIFE algorithm has shown the best result, but the interpolator built into the "Toon Boom Harmony" program (many modern 2D cartoons are created using this program) also shows a good result, since you can adjust the motion vector there.
However, interpolation is not a panacea (example of 5 GIFs above). As is common with many similar programs, it creates a large number of visual artifacts that can only be corrected if you understand basic how to create 2D animations.
I want to test it, and for this I want to try to draw one test animation, which I would have spent at least 8 days on before, along with sound. If it lives up to my expectations, then it will be one of the most useful assistants for me.
