Hi, DripTrax! Kevin here.
Just finished mixing the final version of Spider on the Highway, and it's scarily Neil-ish. It’s as fun and dumb and ragged as the movie itself.
This is the first time I’ve asked real, genuine musicians to play on one of these live show songs, so my sincerest thanks to the following friends who lent their talents.
From left to right in the picture:
HARMONICA: Tom Naunas, sound designer supreme, from the band Abandon Control. Tommy and I have been friends since my days at public television, he worked on many MST-related projects including the movie, and I love him like a brother.
DRUMS: Jonah Ray, puppet show host and comedian, he's everywhere the internet is, my friend and fishing buddy. Find his show Hidden America on VRV. Also a punk drummer, he told me this sing is the slowest he's ever played, ever. He also just released an amazing new EP of reimagined Weird Al songs on Asian Man records.
PEDAL STEEL GUITAR: Mark McConville, Master improviser from Superego and so many other wonderful podcasts. Mark was able to channel the spirit of legendary steel player Ben Keith, haunting the spaces between the lyrics. And with his work on Superego he's made me do more than one coffee noser.
BASS AND SIX STRING GUITAR: Brian Murphy, my brother and leader of the band Arranmore, and the first person I thought of who could get that “Harvest” sound down cold and anchor the song, which he did.
I hope you enjoy the song when you hear it August 15th. In fact, I hope you sing along.
