Playing for you in the Fall light

My sister erotic performers danced, sang, tied ropes and wielded floggers at a Whore’s Night Out at the Vortex Theater in  Austin, TX, last week. I presented my solo show, Naked at my Age, about the joys of sex work, and my sexy colleagues joined me with their own acts.  Together we celebrated and 'reclaimed' the word Whore. Enthusiastic, sell-out audiences barred witness with a standing ovation.

My mentorie, Melissa of BodyJoy, MC-ed the event. Here in solidarity we don our Whore Hats—probably a Genius book of records--reclaiming bodily autonomy and free sexual expression for the World’s Oldest Profession.  Each of us a passionate teacher of sexual wellness in our own right, working to make communities safer, stronger, and a hell of lot more fun.

The hundreds of sex workers I've met over 20 years, are talented, smart, over-educated over-achievers! So different from what most people think. My friend, Dr. Susan Kaye, a great-grandmother (I kid you not) danced to the song, Black Velvet, and got everyone thinking, “What was my great-grandmother like?” 

She trained as a sex surrogate with Masters and Johnson, the famous sex researchers of the 60s, and today trains others in the field.  Together we represent over 140 years of sex shenanigans and coaching. After the show mothers often tell me, “I wish I would have brought my daughter,” and daughters say “I wished I’d brought my mom.”  Look at the moms we are becoming!
