I had a ‘massive’ good time with Aussies and Kiwis when I popped Down Under! Now I know a jumper is a sweater, cutlery is silverware, Bottlow is a liquor store, but really…erasers are rubbers?!” Good on me for learning that one.

So our Australian Shepard dogs are not from Australia, and Koalas are not bears (but cute), and born the size of jelly beans, live 5 months in a Mother’s pouch (marsupials), come out, eat Eucalyptus leaves, and sleep 20 hours a day. Little Kiwi birds, bless their hearts, lose 20% of their body weight laying a single egg that’s almost the size of an ostrich’s. No wonder they make the Dad sit on it.

While Down Under, I asked an Uber driver from Afghanistan what he liked about his new country. He smiled, “You can look people in the eye, it’s clean, the government is good, I have more freedoms…and my wife (who does not wear a veil) loves the tradition of ‘potlucks’!”

I met so many wonderful people with stories! My airbnb hostess in Adelaide, a climate activist, glued her feet to a glass ceiling during an oil and gas conference holding a sign ‘End Fossil Fuels.’ It took the police 2 hours to remove her and her fellow senior 'Extinction Rebellion' protestors.

I had a tremendous run of my solo show, Naked at My Age, that extolls the surprises and empowerment that come from finding sex work. To speak on Australia and New Zealand national radio and the press about...desires being our highest intelligence, sex and aging, noticing and listening to our body—wow, how intimate! After many performances of Naked, audience members would stay and talk—sex workers would often offer their own experiences.

I tell my new southern friends, “As you sleep I’m doing all I can to bring peace and pleasure to my part of the world, and when when I sleep, I trust you are doing the same. We are joined by an ocean.”  Much love to you Patreons! Charla
