No pay up front.
Added 2019-11-15 09:18:58 +0000 UTCPay up front is a setting on Patreon where patrons are charged the amount they pledge when they subscribe, rather than at the end of the month. The idea, I guess, is that it prevents people from pledging, grabbing the goodies, and then rescinding on their pledge.
A lot of the VN Devs seem to go with it, but I don't think I will.
There's a bunch of small reasons I don't want to go there. For starters, I'm ashamed to admit there's not all that much special content to nick in that way anyways.
Also, in general, I don't believe gains from limiting access to content or distributing special editions outweighs the effort it takes to implement it, at least in this case. If you were wondering why there's no upper tier plus version of Light of my Life, that's it.
Also, I want as many people as possible to play all of Light of my Life. Locking access away is the exact opposite of that.
But in the end, I think this is the most important one: I like to think you support the creation of Light of my Life because you feel it's worth to be created and you want to contribute to that in some way. And if that is so, stuff like pay up front and special editions aren't factoring in to your decision to support away, so why would I bother with them.
So, I don't really mind if someone comes in, pledges, looks around, decides they don't feel it, and cancels. Because that means that those of you that do stick around and support the game do feel that way.

2019-11-30 19:43:30 +0000 UTCYou bring up an interesting point. I'm actually very happy that you found it on a pirate site and decided to come up here and pledge, because it strengthens me in the idea that I'm going about it in the right way. In fact I put the game up on F95 myself, which is sometimes referred to as a pirate site (although many devs use it as a means of distribution too), for that very purpose. The more people have access to it, the more likely someone like yourself will step up and decide to contribute. Looking at it that way, the more places it's distributed from, the better.
