Ace and Gene were still childhood friends in this AU despite having lived in different areas for a long time. Gene works on a farm in the town of Appleoosa growing truffles. Before he was old enough to go on his own, he would join his father on monthly trips to Canterlot to sell their truffles to the higher class.
This is where he and Ace met, and each month they spent time chatting until they grew close enough for Ace to take trips to the farm.
When both were old enough, they moved to ponyville together where they met Rory, who works as a yoga instructor for older ponies.
They end up meeting Jobie while the wonderbolts are in ponyville for a show. Jobie is- though chaotic- a very fast flyer and is in a lower rank for the wonderbolts. (He crashes into Rory while trying to land)
