In this world, all merfolk are typically intersex! They are able to produce both eggs and seed, as well as being able to "carry" said eggs.
Their ridged appendage produces eggs to be deposited into their mate, and their smoother appendage produces sperm to fertilize the eggs once they're in place.
Typically, merfolk will produce two or three eggs in one mating session. However, there are anomalies depending on specific species or fertility. For example, Gene produces four eggs per session (Sometimes five) while Jobie produces one or two.
Due to how often merfolk tend to breed (they are typically very romantic and loving creatures!) only about 40% of their eggs will hatch successfully to reduce overpopulation.
