Sirens in this world are a subcategory of mermaids. They are mermaids by technicality, but behave different socially, have softer scales, and having patterning unlike any species of fish.

They do not sing to lure humans, that's merely a myth. They do indeed have a natural aura about them that lures people in. This may be due to their attractiveness, sweet natural scent, or perhaps their lustful behavior.

They don't eat humans either. Their killing of a human is typically completely by accident since the human may die of exhaustion much like they may with a succubus. However, its not purposeful and a Siren will briefly grieve before finding their next mate.

They do not steal pearls and jewels either. Sirens will often form a relationship with otter based mermaids in which the otter assumes they are mates, and will bring pearls from the oysters they eat to the Siren. (Otter-based mermaids are not as bright as other species, and only speak in squeaks and squeals. They are widely disliked by all species except for sirens. They are invasive and sometimes aggressive.)

Sirens don't typically enjoy mating with humans in particular, but William seems to have an affinity towards them. He just adores them! cannot get enough of them!
