Joel is now a casualty also, for trying to grab Seferi's lead role, and stomping all over Seferi's intricate plans.

Probably inside man Joel sees through Elena's disguise at the dinner with Toska, and alerts Seferi to the opportunity. Then Seferi assembles the rest of his team Joanna, Roan, and James to frighten the Samara family and push Andrew deeper into his role. (This keeps reminding me of the TV show Mission Impossible) The goal is perhaps to make sure Nikos gets fully enmeshed in Toska's business, in order to then shock and publicly embarass Toska as payback, by revealing Elena's true past as Andrew.
