Solanaceae - Prologue Chapter 3, Page 32

THEY DID IT. THEY CAUGHT FISH.

Phew, this week was going well but today I woke up with some back pain / soreness. Not sure from what yet. Might just be the usual quarantine sitting too much pain or it could be our bed (which god, I CANNOT afford to replace, considering how much I just paid out for taxes... jfc.) but I'm gonna continue to do what I can to try and combat that.

It's very frustrating to have a pile of work that requires me to sit down but sitting down like, actively hurts me. There's so many upcoming bills and other stuff to try and take care of, oof...

Anyways, enough of that! Here's a page for today! Gonna work on Topping You Off pages today and other various work, woo!

Thanks for your support everyone!

It's sad cuz I've done all of this stuff ;o; The problem with doing art is... well... I can't stand up and do it! I've had lots of people suggest I get a standing desk but like, it's just not how drawing really works! BUT I do have a pillow I sit with, and like I said, I do a lot of stretching and moving when I can, and I've started working out on an exercise bike. XuX I think for me... I just need to get stronger!!!! I'd like to get a new bed cuz I think that would help a lot but WOW did I just pay $6k in taxes :') (and there's more coming!!! wow self employment, yipee!)

Light movement has definitely helped me, too, along with the ice/heat method. I also have been converted to Bayer Back and Pain and IcyHot patches. Those have been a game changer for me. Sometimes you can’t reduce the pain but you can replace some of the pain stimuli with a new one sensation and IcyHot helps with that, too. Personal TENS units can also help with that and those are great to use when icing. There are some around $30 to $40 that should do the job. Also finding cushions, pillows, or rolled up towels around the house so that I can give certain body parts support when sitting or laying down. A rolled up towel placed in the curve of my lower back has sometimes been just enough of adjustment to give relief. It’s also can add a gentle back extension stretch which helps a lot. And sometimes like adding pillows under my feet while I sit at my desk helps. It’s sometimes a guess and check fiasco but just trying to find the alignment that puts less strain on the body in that moment. Also, swapping between sitting and standing while I work has helped immensely for me. Standing doesn’t work for everyone I’ve found but I was able to get a low cost lift so that I could sketch comfortably while standing. It’s a bit more complex to adjust a digital set up, which I haven’t done yet, but sometimes standing feels way better than sitting to work. Hopefully there’s something helpful in here! I’m sorry you are having to deal with that. I can empathize and it’s super frustrating when you want to do something but the pain makes it really challenging.

I went to physical therapy for it so everyday I do a set of stretches, I do some yoga poses, I try to walk when I can (can't do much with so much work / quarantine) and I often ice and/or heat my back, and I take pain meds here and there (not too many since I am concerned for my liver) but yeah, I'd love anything you think worked for you. I am quite weak and can't do anything too intensive to start (literally my PT was like "your ass is weak, this is your problem") so I can't do everything but I can do a lot! Thanks

If you are ever wanting to talk about strategies to manage back pain, let me know! I’ve been dealing with that big time recently to the point where I was having trouble sitting and drawing for a bit. I’m learning as I go along, so happy to share at any time if it’s helpful 😁
