March Patreon Reward - Alice in Sudokuland

Hello Patreons! Thank you so much for supporting us.

As a thank you, here is our March monthly reward pack of puzzles - a brilliant set from the Paint By Numbers Institute (aka Panthera, TheAsylum and Montinox). Many thanks to the constructors/poets/narrators/artists for their brilliant document and series of puzzles.

The puzzles are themed on Japanese Sums Sudokus, with all the rules explained in the pdf. Instructions for submission are within, but (briefly) if you can solve any three puzzles by the 20th of March (UK time), you can make yourself eligible for the monthly prize, and if you can solve all 12 puzzles by the 10th of March (4pm UK time), you will be eligible for a shout-out on the channel!

Good luck, enjoy the puzzles, and remember to believe six impossible things before breakfast!

No, we haven't got as far as March 10 yet with the shoutouts!

Cracking The Cryptic

We submitted the keyphrase on March 10, but it seems that we never got a shoutout :( Did we miss it?

Couldn't do any of them haha

Works for me in Chrome!

Mhairi McNeill

I used Firefox on a desktop and they all worked.

Athel Stan

Thanks Panthera, TheAsylum and Montinox for the puzzles.

Athel Stan

For those who have managed to open all the puzzles, which browser or app are you using?

Gherkin Soon

I just tried this and the network connection error disappeared, but now I’m having the other issue of the puzzle trying to re-load every second

Gherkin Soon

For those having problems with opening the puzzles, after opening them, change app.cracingthecryptic.com with sudokupad.app, and it should work.

Shawn Kiewel

Yes, an error message says that there’s no network connection. The CBF version will load, but I CBF doing it that way…

Gherkin Soon

I tried to use the app but the coloured boxes were obscuring the numbers

Gherkin Soon

I can’t load most of the multicolour puzzles either, it just says no network connection..

I can’t load most of the multicolor puzzles. Just keeps saying I already finished the puzzle even though I haven’t been able to even begin. The page reloads automatically every second or so. I’ve really enjoyed the puzzles I’ve been able to access, so it’s really a shame. I do hope this gets resolved or there’s a way around it. I should mention I do them on my iPad. Anyways, thank you for the amazing puzzles

As a fan of Japanese sums, this pack was a blast!! Thank you for a great hunt!

This is my first time participating in one of these, and I'm having a lot of fun! I've finished all the easier puzzles, and now I'm stumped by The Lory. I've only just managed to place my sixth digit after a couple hours. I'm definitely still a novice, but I'm determined to give it my best shot!

Mystic Argus

Yeah I'm confused by rows 1 and 2.

ARDavis

Same problem with puzzle 9 with iOS Sudoku pad app. Didn’t even load in safari. Solution was correct in android chrome.

N+T Sudoku Solving Ltd.

Thanks for making this hunt. Made it till the end and enjoyed it very much.

Simple, fun, & straightforward puzzles this month! And I liked that the poetic intros were self-aware about how convoluted rulesets can get. But the hunts are always a lot of fun, and I appreciate those who put them together. Thank you all!

Benny Ng

is anyone else having issues loading the caterpillar puzzle?

Christian John Hazlett

iOS or android?

Yes I just put my exact same solution into the web app and it judged it correct. There is a problem with the puzzle when loaded into the iOS version of Sven’s SudokuPad

Big round of applause for TheAsylm, Montinox and Panthera for creating a truly beautiful hunt. Enjoyed each and every puzzle in the pack. Hats off!

Mario

Played in Sven's Sudoku Pad myself and didn't encounter any problem with any solutions.

Mario

Is anyone else playing in Sven’s SudokuPad? As when I check my solution to puzzle 1 I get “doesn’t look quite right” but I’m certain the solution is valid!

I was only able to force the 5,33,4 row at first, but looking again I see that once you have some "unshaded" cells marked (I use salmon for unshaded) you can expand that if you have a shaded cell and only one run.

Stinky Pete

In my case, the teapot always had some place to look at and figure out, so it flowed quite smoothly (at least for me, who is not fast at these things). But once most of the rabbit had been coloured in, I got majorly stuck trying to disambiguate the numbers.

David Carroll

Some of the rows are forced by the sums and the fact that you need to put a grey cell between them.

ARDavis

Agree to David's statement, the first one took me way longer than the second one

That's surprising to me, because the first one gives 2 free columns to anchor the runs on the rows. I found it a lot harder to place colors on my first go at the second one. Any tips?

Stinky Pete

The white rabbit is probably the hardest puzzle I've ever solved, personally. I'm grateful for the 1-star caterpillar but I will have to really think to make the teapot work!

Stinky Pete

So far so good, but I did find the second puzzle a lot easier than the first. Gives me hope for those 4 stars...

David Carroll

I'm already having problems with understanding that long sentence in the rules haha

Jurgen Landrie

Made it through the first which is more than i expected! Thanks to all involved in these :)

Jim Newman

Having a lot of fun solving the first two puzzles. The poetry and colouring adds to the fun.

We are on the discord if you need extra help! !
