And I’m not talking the team you see here…
I was enraged and so saddened to hear that over 60% of American moms and 90% 🤯 of moms in the UK stop breastfeeding BEFORE they wanted to. They felt unable to continue.
Guess what their reasoning was? Lack of support. 😠
Why are we not prioritizing supporting women at this most crucial and fragile time of their life?
We hear “Breast is best,” but we expect moms to continue along doing it solo?
Oh, and let’s not forget the WHO recommends at least 2 years of breastfeeding as long as both are able and willing.
We. Must. Do. Better.
Perhaps it’s because we seem to value independence above all. Because mothers are expected to #snapback #postpartum and get back to ‘normal’ as soon as possible. Because sleeping through the night and potty training seem to be the only milestones worth actively working towards.
But at what cost?
I am so grateful for my husband and my close family and friends for supporting me to strive towards my ever changing goals of feeding my daughter and now my son in tandem.
Everyone else? Please. Do. Better.
Mothers around the world deserve it.
