This movie is dookie. Doo doo butter in a pair of clown shoes bad. BUT IN ROB ZOMBIE'S DEFENSE -- it was his first movie -- he always loved that like 70's blaxploitation/grindhouse past midnight drive-in stuff. Really trashy movies nobody would watch. And since he was famous for his music, the studio gave him BEAUCOUP bucks and all the freedom in the world to make whatever. He was like a kid in a candy store. It's at least noble in that sense....but lord oh lord. The one thing that I never understood is why and the hell would you show the hitchhiker girl murdering people right after the group picks her up. It destroys any mystery or interesting lines. Because of this, the movie feels both really long and really short all at once. It's in a competition with itself to be over -- almost like that same little kid after going to the candy store and wanting to pass out, all within in an hour. I saw the trailer for this forever ago as a kid in the theaters before a horror movie, and that blue light with the clown Dr. Spaulding in the murder ride always looked so cool to me. It was harder than usual to find this playing in theaters, but we did. I remember being let down, and I was really easy to please. Revisiting it is nice though for the memories of Florida and the people I knew at the time, so it'll always kinda be...oddly...in the rotation, no matter how thin it is compared to other rotation movies.

Seen it 20 years ago in theaters, and now 20 years later I can say it's still a terrible movie. Unpopular opinion I know but yeesh lmao. The reaction however 10/10.

I've been binge-watching the reactions to the other horror movies Asia and BJ have done and I think my favorite moments are just like 1:24:00 of this reaction, when BJ is edge of his seat, giggling and geeking out while Asia is peeking through her fingers horrified. Always cracks me up. I also love when BJ will point something out, "His head came clean off! Just a little off the top!" to Asia's response, "Babe!! Why you gotta say that?!!" 😂 I'm always in tears.
