Fun fact: in a q&a, kubo actually said that aizen was actually cautious of starrk when he became aware of him because of his strength. That's part of why u see in starrks flashback that aizen was so much more serious approaching starrk than he normally is.

In the manga, the sneak attack shunsui did was more severe, in that it harmed a portion of starrks soul and starrk lost the wolves. Because of it, shunsui didn't actually fight the wolves in the manga. The anime made starrks wolves easily destroyed, but that isn't the case.
