LAST EPISODE WILL BE OUT WEDNESDAY 11AM EST !!

THEN WE START BLEACH OCTOBER 30 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Hero Academia - 7x20 (UNCUT REACTION)

Comments

If someone has to explain this much doesn't mean its not well written.. It just means some people need more spoon feeding and exposition than others, which is shitty writing.

paeka

Cuz deku is a good character. His character development was top tier while still being the same person he was in the beginning.

Ehsanul Haque

How is Todoroki and All Might lower than Deku I don't know... Even his mom is a better character than Deku.

Daniel iacomi

[Oh my god, I wrote a fucking paragraph, sorry.] It's not always about forgiveness or redemption, nothing will ever change people fully, and if it does, they were never themselves to begin with. And nothing will ever change what they did. Shigaraki is a murderer, he deserves death or imprisonment for life, no matter what happened to him in the past, but some do change in some way even with the dark past. Thorfinn was a murderer, he killed a LOT of people, and he will never forgive himself, and so shouldn't we, but instead of dying, he tries to help people, not for forgiveness, for he will never forgive himself, nor for redemption to be the "good guy," but because he wants to be a kinder person, because he wants to help as many people as he hurt, and that is, in a sense, redemption, but it's a long road, and only saying you want to change and actually changing are two different things. Toga doesn't want to change, but wants people to like things she likes, and with time and a different path, she will never be forgiven for what she did, and her personality won't change 100%, but she could be liked by some people, and even now, she was liked by at least 2-4 people at the end of her life, and even one of them being a hero. So to me, it's more about understanding than simply forgiving, redeming, or even sometimes liking a character. I still think my favorite characters are: 1. Shigaraki  2. Endevar  3. Bakugo 4. Toga 5. Dabi 6. All For One 7. Deku 8. All Might 9. Todoroki 10. Spinner

Popcorn

Uraraka wants to be a hero that primarily rescues and saves people. The reason she’s trying so hard here is that Toga is someone who has reached out to her a bunch of times and Uraraka kept turning her away. She essentially ignored someone looking for help and only realized that after she pushed Toga too far. You shouldn’t forgive Toga for her actions, but it’s important to understand what drives people into becoming villains. That’s what MHA is trying to convey. You’ve got Toya and Toga as examples of those too far gone vs Gentle and Nagant as examples of those that can still be redeemed.

e10

I think most people forget that Katuski as a kid also didnt show much promise. He was a bully with a very dangerous quirk and anger issues (volume 1 literally starts with him beating Deku up and then later telling him to off himself). Without proper care he could have easily ended up as a different person. BUT his parents, his friends, Aizawa - never gave up on him. And THAT is what the story is trying to say. Horikoshi istnt rying to say Toga is a good person, he is trying to show that sometimes society gives up on people too soon, and in return those people then give up on society..which creates a toxic cycle.

Karin

Wait, are you calling me close minded, or Toga's parents??

Chris Gama

yeah thats just close minded af imo but to each their own

Floaty

yeah the only thing I don't agree with him on is that people with signs of sociopathy and psychopathy should be killed on sight

Floaty

I completely agree with Nick on this, Toga is that character that is not redeemable and something like she dying here would be fitting, I don't care what happens to her, but I don't want her to be a hero and join the U.A and stuff, I'm with you completely in that statement as well.

IRELQUEEN

even the english dubbing gave it their all to these scenes. If you just ignore the name pronunciations, trust me it sells just as hard as the Japanese. Anyone can fight me on this. I will be the Shouji fighting for giving English dubbing a chance on this one.

Project Pachia

I've never been really attached to Toga but I cried my eyes out this episode... definitely top 3 for this season (obviously the Todoroki family moment being the first one). To me, Ochaco had the opportunity to look at a different, conflicted and tormented side of Toga which made her feel that she needed somebody to understand her. She DID have some moments with her, where Toga actually wanted (in her own way) to understand Ochaco and somehow get her feelings trough. So this chapter (and the next one) was the perfect culmination for that to me.

Ownedworld 720

its just that nick isn't very bright so people have to explain things for him

TripleJ

Temu subtitles unfortunately. Def does not do ochaco justice

RMB

Ultimately one of the main themes of mha is acceptance of natural differences and embracing and uplifting others instead of isolating them.

spring deerling

If you can't comprehend this then unfortunately you're a bit slow

spring deerling

@James Perrott - birds certainly do "fall and die". we saw toga drinking the blood of the already deceased bird, not biting the bird. you're misconstruing the scene entirely. it's important to understand that due to her quirk, ingesting blood is toga's equivalent to kissing or showing affection.

nic ˚୨୧⋆。

I feel like if you have to explain it this much it just wasn't well written

Kouzen

This episode didn't make any sense to me at all

Kouzen

So I watched MHA movie in the cinema and it was insanely cool. I hope to see Nick's reaction one day.

Tenshi Kanade

I've just realised that gentle criminal in that other episode looks like bang from one punch man 💀💀

XtremeChese

Subtitles was a bit off which could be interpreted differently. Crunchyroll was more accurate. Either way, have fun with the last episode!

Arkan Matlub

Are you reacting to mha movie 3 and 4?

Arkan Matlub

He already released it as a way of thanks. It's below the post for episode 7x7 and 7x8. Just click the mha tag and you'll find it

Arkan Matlub

Wait does anyone know where 19 went?

Oofidk

Quirk = personality, so had Toga's parents spent time trying to understand her, they could have figured out a safe and consensual way for her to develop her quirk instead of demonizing her and making her go dark side. Ochaco is at first scared and confused by Toga, but because she's very smart and empathetic she eventually comes to understand that Toga isn't just an evil villian, she's a young girl warped by her quirk and past and she's trying to connect to others but has never learned how. Ochaco isnt obsessed or in love, she's a hero with a kind heart that thought she failed helping someone so she thought endlessly about how to succeed at reaching Toga if given another chance. Because ultimately forming an authentic connection with Toga would potentially achieve 2 things: Toga's smile and saving the lives of those she would have targeted.

CJ

The Subtitles ruined it She was meant to say ‘ I fell in love with Izuku’

Ondre YT

Great explanation! thanks

Senon

tbh. Ochaco's Moment and Thinking is similar to Deku's. Like Deku want to save Shiggi cuz he saw him Crying, Ochaco is doing the same to Toga rn. maybe you can't really Comprehend her motiv for her Actions but isn't it the same with Deku?

Junior Macht Ernst

true

Yoshi

the reason why ochako was so attached is partly because on season 6 she neglected toga during their convo and only viewed her as a villain, which is what ppl her whole life had done to her, as well as the fact that ochako has always wanted to see ppl smile so that’s why she said stuff like toga having a beautiful smile

TY_MP371

no, let him catch up first

Anthony Brogiotti

Why?

Kaito mizuta

Only one more episode and people can finally stop going at each other's throats in the comments over MHA arguments lmao

Kleed44

Day 1 of asking Nick to react to One Piece: Red

Yoshi

Tell me what did i miss ?

Bradcube

wait youre right tho i forgot it but i watched it tho xd

SerVuS

He did it when it came out a few weeks ago. i think he published it right before the first shoto vs dabi episode

BottleOfSoup

I dont think you missed anything, their connection is a little too deep when looking back at their interactions. Imo it shouldve been built on more but still a great moment

Adam

Great explanation, thank you. I felt that I kinda understood Toga's story and Uraraka's reasoning, but I honestly had some confusion to some of it. Your explanation did make it more clear for me, thank you!

Chris Gama

THIS!!! This right here is the best explanation Ive read so far.

Keegan Brown

One also has to realize that in Japanese society, someone that gets enjoyment out of blood is particularly sick or probably possessed by evil spirits. So thats why Toga's parents are so freaked out by her and what she does.

Chris Gama

Once again though a moment ruined by poor subs, Ochacco not meant to say "I came to like Izuku" she says "I fell in Love with Izuku"

GotBitFeverHit

I will do my best to explain her attachment to Toga as best as I can: Uraraka has always been the character who represents love, empathy, and happiness. Her whole personality is based around seeing other people smile. Seeing her parents smile, regular citizens smile, and heroes smile. SHE FIGHTS FOR PEOPLES SMILES. Therefore, when coming across someone like (Toga) who smiles when hurting others, it was a complete shock to her. How could anyone find joy in hurting someone else? Which is why during the encounter in season 6 in the abandoned apartment, Uraraka answered Togas question the only rational way she thought was right: "I would never find joy in hurting others, Zero gravity is a power meant to help others, not hurt them " That answer made Toga cry in sadness, because she truly thought Uraraka would have been the best person to have understood her and her traumatic past. Especially since they both loved Deku. hence why she wanted to open up and talk about love, express herself the way she always wanted to. Unfortunately Urarakas answer only caused more trauma making her cry. In return Toga crying hurt Uraraka as well. She made someone else cry, the complete opposite of her whole persona. Which is why she couldn't ignore Togas tears and pain. She remembered her tears while giving her speech ontop of UA, and thought about her tears when overlooking the destroyed city. Hence the conversation with Deku about understanding villians and the pain inside their hearts. In conclusion: she fought so hard in this episode to bring a smile to the one person who she hurt. To understand the pain in her heart. I will end with this: next episode will make you rethink your controversial statement about ( putting certain people down) because you'll see that had Toga been guided on the right path while she was a child she actually would've become an amazing hero given her power. This whole time Togas power was a power meant to save others not hurt them.

Keegan Brown

where 7x19

SerVuS

appreciate it man

noya

you literally watched the show with your eyes closed or brain off

Daemon TLH

literally describes nick lmao 😭

Daemon TLH

Disagree here it's not about the times they talked,it's about what they're separate journey has been that eventually led to cross path on a moral and personal level. Most of Toga dev. Happened because of her liking Uraraka but not really interacting with her much, while Uraraka might have helped some extra stuff to help develop the relationship it makes pretty good sense why they ended up like this.

TheKobalt

Being excited for him to react to such episodes and being ready to sigh when he doesn't get the importance of such scenes coz he hasn't paid enough attention to notice how it's all been building up since the start,, both goes hand in hand lol Kinda sad jdjfkfjfkf but welll excited for the last ep too

Shweta G

Nick trust me don't binch a lot of episode too much because if you don't have fun with it you will end up don't have any passion to watch anymore go at your own pace man

jabchai

No there won't be any shippuden cause unlike Naruto no couples are confirmed

XI_A_Sourodip Roy

Great reaction, Nick! I think it's not unreasonable to miss the connection between Ochaco and Toga. It happens! But here are 3 things which can help you understand their relationship better : 1. Ochaco has always been a person with high empathy, and has a desire to help people. This is arugably the same or even higher than Deku's. This has been shown by how she cares about parents, other heroes and people in general. So it's not surprising that she has those strong feelings for Toga. 2. It has been mentioned before that Quirks affect people's personality and traits. So Toga's quirk makes her want to drink blood, especially those she likes. 3. MHA covers the Nature vs Nurture debate. You see this theme with Shigaraki, where he has the destruction quirk, and also his environment manufactured by AFO, which led him to become the villain he is. There is a parallel with Toga's story with her quirk affecting her behaviour, and her surroundings pushing her to become an outcast in society. This makes you question how much of her actions were actually of her own free will? Because if they're not of her own free will, then it wouldn't be fair to punish her (especially since she's technically not an adult yet). So Ochaco, being an empath, understands these nuances, which is why she doesn't forgive Toga but still wants to show her love.

nadhil aqran

oh right, ty

Kanta

hey please don't spoil the ending for Shigaraki - spoilers are not welcome here

Kleed44

toga is an exceptionally well written villain and im sad to see nick kinda glossed over her in his reactions, I get he's reacting to a lot of animes its understandable you weren't able to pick up on certain things. You're rewatching MHA with Liv right? try paying moree attention to her whole plot :) I feel like you were very invested in the all might deku and shigaraki stuff as well as the Todoroki family you glossed over Toga and Uraraka which I get! There's some perfect explanations to why Uraraka cares about Toga in this comment section I hope you read them! its a beautiful story in my opinion really relates to how in current society kids with mental health problems don't get the help they need and are instead blamed. Hope you get to see why she's a beloved villain in MHA I don't think its just that she's hot (at least not to me anyway lol) I just think she's a well written character.

Jenniee

I hope nick reads this! good explanation!

Jenniee

and saying shigaraki will be saved by deku hell nah….

예준 권

randomly saying toga dies oh hell nah you prewatched

jcubb

What the fuck do you mean birds don't fall and die, brother, I've had at least 7 baby birds fall and die in my backyard

Rigin

the thing is hawks never wanted to kill twice but it was his mission to kill big threats like him but he regrets it afterwards (thats why he always says that twice was a good guy) kinda like Lady Nagant and how her mental broke one day after killing many people that could become a threat in the future

MrPeaxie

lmao MHA fandom F tier lol just because you can point to the scenes where these characters talked to each other in the past and just because they technically have backstories doesnt mean that this episode was automatically earned or that it makes sense or that it was handled well in any way

Joshua Partridge

It Was posted some time ago. Just scroll down and you should find it

Benjo Show

i cant find episode 19 help?

FynoxDE

its already uploaded

Bin Wanted

True. I get that people are a product of their circumstances that doesn't justify their every action. Twice was a villain who had no qualms in killing people and hawks put a stop to it and for that I only have respect for hawks.

Upamanyu Baishya

I agree, on all fronts. Despite the unfortunate rush to the end (which i think was also unfortunately influenced by WSJ pressures & Horikoshi's health), the connections he was able to make to real and ongoing issues and the way he developed these characters is just phenomenal. Toga & Ochako's combined story holds a particularly special place in my heart.

goblin.bones

Wth, Nick said he didn't quite understand why Ochako developed an attachment to Toga, people are just explaining in a polite way, if you don't read and start criticizing and hating, I think the problem is someone else lil bro.

lilac.

episode 19?

Kanta

I was already going to write a similiar novel about Togas and Ochacos relationship and what their respective storys potrayed here, but I am positively surprised how many people truly got what all of this meant. Incredible character writing and inclusion of societal critic on Horikoshis part overall. It could have taken a little more time and build up but tbf a lot of things in Mha are rushed and underdeveloped. Nonetheless this was amazing.

alluzboy 18

Nick read this ! Good description of those 2

CSR Kurapika

THIS

alluzboy 18

great explanation for his confusion, hope nick reads

Tio

Thank you!! It is sad, and though I haven't studied it as you have, I've experienced it/seen it happen more than once unfortunately, which is why I think this plotting hit so hard for me. I appreciate you taking the time to share/comment. ☺️

goblin.bones

Mfers writing books in here no wonder ppl hate the MHA fanbase.

Cobaltz

Fun fact this is the first time Ochako has said out loud that she liked (loved on crunchyroll) Deku.

Martin Fink

I’m sorry but I don’t think you paid enough attention in the earlier seasons. This has been built up for a very long time and some of the scenes in this episodes were explained earlier and not reexplained as they are rely on you remembering. The bird scene for example was already explained that Toga did not hurt the bird. It was hurt before she came across it. The point there was to show she was getting punished for things that were not her fault because she was “not normal”. Also the whole arc that these two had started in season 3 as ochoco finding her terrifying and then after more conversations she started to notice how toga ended up the way she did. The season 6 conversation was a big part of that and the moment that happened during ochoco’s speech at the end of last season when she thought about toga. If I remember correctly you glossed over that in your reaction. Also the main thing about toga is that her quirk/biology draws her to drink blood. It’s like if you were told not to drink water. It’s an itch more than just a want that no one helped her with since she was born. A lot of people thought that this was the best episode of the season even over the todoroki family episode which goes to show that it was not out of left field or rushed but built up. Just like the todoroki stuff you need to understand the history for the episode to be fully understood.

SupaSoldierLegend

Toga (and most of the other influential villains) weren’t born villains. They just had circumstances whether it be the way their quirks manifest affecting their behavioral instincts, the way they look, or their identity in the world that was counter to the societal norms. In Toga’s case, she could never understand how the behavior that came naturally to her was wrong and she assumed that everyone else was ignoring the desire to drink blood. Instead of explaining things to her in a way where she would learn bodily autonomy and people around her accepting her differences, her parents tried to beat the behavior out of her and everyone tried to change her instead of try to understand her and meet her halfway. They called her creepy and told her to stop smiling so for a while she tried to suppress her self and just act the way everyone expected of her until it was too much and she snapped. In my opinion, her wires got crossed and her love map developed in such a way that she associated her instincts to drink blood and her desire to hurt the people that shunned her as love. She feels genuine love when she tries to hurt people. It reminds me of a lot of Neurodivergent kids like myself who were undiagnosed or had parents that didn’t care if their kid was autistic, had ADHD, etc and thought beating the behaviors out of them would work, so those kids eventually start masking to protect themselves, but ultimately masking is exhausting and doing it 24/7/365 won’t last forever. On the other hand Ochako was poor and so her parents were so stressed trying to survive they were unable to smile often. She wanted to do anything to make them happy but they wanted her to focus on her happiness instead. When she went out into the world and saw heroes saving people and causing everyone to smile, she decided to become a hero so she could make everyone smile. She’s the type of person who can’t fully be happy when others aren’t happy. That’s why her arc goes from her wanting to support her parents, to wanting to focus on rescuing people, to wanting to help heroes who are struggling. So the reason why Ochako can’t let the stuff with Toga go is because she could never understand how Toga could genuinely smile while committing acts that hurt others. Then when they fought and Ochako basically said that Toga was evil and had to be stopped, to Toga that’s no different from the people rejected her just because of who she is. When Toga started crying, it caught Ochako off guard because she didn’t expect her words during their fight to make Toga cry. It confused her and probably felt awful that she was the reason why someone was upset when all she wants is a world where everyone can smile and be happy. In order to achieve that goal, she chooses the same path Deku does, which is, not forgiving or condoning the actions of the villains, but empathizing with them and trying to understand them so they can use the lessons they learn to make the rest of the world a better place for everyone.

Wild Wesley

we LITERALLY saw her bite the bird, birds dont fall and die.

James Perrott

If you think hawks is more evil than toga youre very dumb lmao

James Perrott

Bro she want to change or save toga but there’s nothing to save she’s a psychopath and got pissed because no one allowing it 😂

Bradcube

Yeah idk like to me it feels so obvious Toga never hurt ANYONE as a child, that's the entire point of her character, Nick saying "stop lying" hurt cuz I knew he wouldn't understand the rest of the episode which is a shame, it's one of the best in mha

Rigin

I wish he would finish 86 before starting Frieren especially given how he stopped mid way through the show, but that's his choice of course and I respect it despite disagreeing

Kleed44

omg Karin is here, nobody tell Nick lmao

Kleed44

I really like your take on this especially when it comes to children with disabilities in the real world. As someone who majored in Disability Studies and works with disabled children, you are extremely on the nose that how Toga was/is treated parallels how a lot of children are in the real world. It's super sad, but really love your comments here! :)

Kleed44

Unfortunately, as someone who finished the manga, I don't think we'll get anything like an MHA shippuden as cool as that would be

Kimetsu

anyone knows where i can find his reaction to episode 19?

noya

i dont know if he really didnt pay attention at all to the whole toga thing or if he really just sees toga as a psychopath even with the fact that the whole mha theme since season 5 is that they arent just villains/evil and heroes are sometimes even more evil (the whole hawks killing twice thing as an example). Literally all scenes with Ochaco after the first War are her thinking about toga even in the speech on UA she gave for Deku we see her thinking about toga and how toga is also just a human that the Society just pushed away more and more

MrPeaxie

No naruto until in november when he gets back from japam

TheHumanPro23

The people in the comments that don't understand shit about the series and the dynamic between Toga and Ochako all the way up into 7 seasons of the show. All of you idiots saying it "feels forced" should go back to watching some shit like demon slayer that doesn't force you to think about the dynamics between characters and the writing that goes into them. Its amazing how people can use their own time to watch a series 7 seasons deep and still completely fucking miss out on so much of what the series itself tries to tell and portray to its own audience. All it ever is about with you people is the "hype" and how much brain rot dopamine you can get from an anime. It is never about thinking about what the series tries to provide and portray through its writing and characters.

Sickness

Holy shit the amount of dumbass people in the comments that don't understand shit about this series despite it having 7 seasons so far.

Sickness

Lmao he didn't finish that shit? This dude is all over the fucking place. Of course he decided to drag the last episode out until Wednesday for this series as well.

Sickness

Naruto?

ThanadosO8

I already know this comment is someone who says "it feels forced" because they aren't smart enough to understand the writing behind the characters.

Sickness

Bruh maybe pay a little more attention and you might understand why the series is doing shit like this lmao. Out of all of the build up we have had with Toga and Ochako you still didn't understand them. This wasn't quite as heavily built up as the todoroki stuff but it was still executed perfectly and makes plenty of sense. It isn't just about being black and white with heroes and villains in society that is why Ochako wants to give it her all to understand what made Toga who she is just like Deku is going to give his all for Shigaraki to understand him and how he came to be who he is. Its not about forgiveness or anything like that. Its about seeing how society made them into villains and how Deku and Ochako want to learn about that to prevent more unnecessary villains from being created. I can't go into all of the details of the dynamics between ochako and toga since i would be here typing for an hour trying to gather all of the points I could make and typing them out but I am sure everyone else will be able to state those things out in the comments. At least the people who care about this. Some of these people are too dumb to even understand the writing here to begin with.

Sickness

i understand completely man

Daemon TLH

it's not really forced,Toga was the very first and personal encounter with a villain for Ochako, she was scared and did not really understand her but it left that impression on her when she first smiled while sucking her blood. Their relationship is built upon the fact that Toga really likes Deku and Ochaco being who she is (her whole dev. in MVA was because of her admiration for Uraraka) while Ochaco being the "normal girl" did not care 'cause for her Villains were Villains just like Deku thought and Society teached them, putting their lives on two different rails making them incompatible with each other,it changed in S6 when they got their first eye to eye since s3 (kinda) and Uraraka understood that Toga had more into her than just being a killer and the least she could've done is trying to understand her better kinda making them want to get on the same wavelenght for the first time. There is more to unpack but that's generally why it is not really forced.

TheKobalt

men the Toga and Ochaco episode is amazing!, i love the you can feel their emotion in seiyuus voices, amazing ost

Enzo Jesus Aguilera Aros

This means that the final arc will be a farewell to the MHA series. Very unfortunate and sad after all this time for MHA fans. Will there be MHA Shippuden later hahaha

ISHOWNUT

their dev. has been set since S3 what do you mean?

TheKobalt

On Ochaco's side of things, her entire arc has always been about smiles. First it was her parents smiles (so she wanted money), then it was about the public's smiles (when heroes saved them), then about the hero's smiles (season 6, with the whole "If the heroes are the ones in need, who would save them?"), and now she's reaching towards the villain's smiles, or lack thereof, why do they smile or not. Toga's entire thing has been about people repressing her smile, thinking it's evil and rotten, Ochaco thought this too at first, but she was the first to ask why she smiles like that doing such horrible things, it's because she didn't used to do this, Ochaco doesn't forgive her for her crimes, she understands people don't have 1 singular identity, your desire to consume blood doesn't make you evil, your creepy smile doesn't make you evil, and your actions always have a story behind it, Toga wasn't born this way, she was broken.

Rigin

generally Ochako got interested in Toga because she found her smile genuine being someone who enjoys seeing people smiling. When Toga tells someone she loves them has the most honest smile and that is what Uraraka got interested in,Uraraka was most likely just going to send her to jail and that's it until she saw back in S6 her crying and that sparked her the need to understand Toga.

TheKobalt

Ye its literally the final arc, there's like 30 chapters left to adapt. The next season will be the last with like 10-12 episodes.

FunRon

Toga never hurt anyone as a child, not even the bird, she was telling the truth, the bird did fall on his own. Her whole arc is about how the parents repressing her happiness on consuming blood made her create a mask, and eventually snap. Toga could have become a fantastic hero had her been treated with actual care instead of assuming she's rotten, I say this because her quirk copies the blood of the person, so she would be a literal perfect blood donor.

Rigin

I think the MHA anime series is nearing the end of the story. even the next season is called the final chapter

ISHOWNUT

I knew he was gonna do this. Post one a day. Well it’s been a great run. Shoutout to everyone who’s been here since season 1, I’ll see y’all next year after episode 21

Leb

She just spent a lot of time thinking about toga and her words/actions and how society had let her down in a way and just really wanted to communicate with her as a person

Kaleb Beaumont

I don’t understand the whole thing with ochaco and toga . It feels forced. Well at least she admitted she likes deku finally lol

Xzumbi_xoxo

There are 2 My Hero Academia movies for Nick to watch: "World Heroes' Mission" and "You're Next"

GdVortex

this episode is so ass

Bradcube

Sorry again for the motor mouth 😭 ty for the vid!! So glad you're enjoying the series

goblin.bones

Apologies for the wall 😭 tldr I think this fight is meant to show that Toga is not a villain because she wants to do bad things on purpose, but more because she did not receive proper emotional or quirk support as a child, and as a result does not know how to handle her feelings or desires in a way that aligns with the law, or this world's "normality". I think it's meant to be an extension of one of Horikoshi's overarching plot points about how being a hero vs being a villain is not entirely black and white - the world is full of Gray areas, but is not infrastructurally built to recognize them.

goblin.bones

AkibaCap10

Akiba Mod: FOR THOSE WONDERING WHERE EPISODE 19 IS! Nick Posted it September 28th so you'll have to scroll back a bit

AkibaCap10

Uraraka had said since the beginning that she just wants people to be happy. It started with her parents and then as she got older, she realized there were people besides who parents and she wanted them to be happy too. In season 6, when Toga confronted her and Uraraka saw how sad she looked, she realized that villains were people too but she didn't understand them. She wanted to reach out for Toga because like everyone else, she deserved to be happy, but she didn't understand her or knew what she went through to make her a villain. Uraraka is all about people smiling and being happy, but she realized villains need help too. I don't think it's overly complicated. The MHA villains have constantly been the ones beaten down by society because of their quirks or because of one mistake. And they can never recover from it because society won't let them. The only ones to reach out to villains are other villains. The reason Gentle and Nagant helped in the war is because Deku reached out to them as a hero. The story is about the new generation of heroes learning the mistakes of the previous generations and realizing they have to be better for society to advance. Toga was Uraraka's insight into that problem.

Fallen Crest

Ochaco wants to save Toga like deku wants to save shigaraki. They both wanna heal that inner child in them and save their hearts

I think you're pretty close to why/how - this fight and the conversation between them is less about vindicating and absolving toga of her crimes, and more about ochako letting toga know that she understands (in part) why she did the things she did - she expresses her love in a way that's seen as fucked up/wrong/whatever, but at the root of it, Toga just wanted to love and be loved - her quirk is what made that hard from her, and the lack of quirk guidance and understanding from others as a child made it worse. Most heroes have just pegged her as a monster and moved on, but Ochako wanted her to know that she understands - she has to stop her, because she's hurting others, but she wants Toga to know that at the root of it all is just the heart of a teenage girl who wanted to talk about love, but was always made to feel like a monster for it. I think it heavily parallels the way mental health and even learning disabilities in teens and kids is handled nowadays - a lot of the time, kids are just told to suck it up and act/be "normal", just "do better in school", and expected to follow societal norms they may not even have an understanding of due to how their brain processes things around them - there's a lack of proper programs and support, and just generally a lack of people saying "it's okay" vs just calling a kid weird for being different and moving on. This is an extreme case in the show of course, but at its core, no one ever told her how to handle her quirk, or that it was okay to like things differently, or even tried to understand her - she was labeled a monster and cast aside, and is who she is now today, fueled by the hate for the world that did that to her and did that to her friends. I think a bulk of this fight/conversation happens because Ochako recognizes that, and recognizes that she did the same thing, and is reaching out to her because it's important to her to let Toga know that she sees that

"Toga is a character I created for Ochako, and Ochako's development is to complement Toga" those are the words of Horikoshi, the creator. The development of these two can be seen from many points, from platonic to romantic, even if it's one sided (because yes, Toga awakened feelings for Ochako and she herself admits it), it depends on the interpretation of each viewer, but in the end Ochako simply wanted to give her that opportunity that no one ever gave her, telling Himiko that her smile was beautiful is a contrast to what everyone else saw, they thought that it was a weird and scary expression in her, In itself, what happened to her and most of the villains was the fault of society and that closed-minded pov, because Toga would've had a very different destiny if they had helped her control her quirk from the beginning. It is a very deep analysis, so imma shut up here LMAO.

If you look back through the series at their interactions together Toga was always trying to be friends with her but Ochaco was scared obviously and didn’t understand what Toga was trying to say. But the more they butted heads the more Ochaco started to see the sadness in Toga. Ochaco’s character is based around making ppl happy, being uplifting granted her quirk is zero gravity. So when Ochaco saw Toga get upset about what she thought was obvious, it stared to make her think about how she didn’t know anything about Toga. Which led her to this moment trying to break through to her and trying to get Toga to vent her feelings and frustration.

Ochako was doing what Deku wants to do with Shigaraki, there was a scene with Ochako and Deku talking where they both know it's a weird idea but still want to do it. Bottom line is it's a want to save everyone complex.

Stuff

There are many reasons why Ochaco is so attached to Toga. The main one being, Toga reached out to Ochaco in season 6(which to be fair to you in the manga version the intention of Horikoshi is very clear, that he was writing down a moment a decision that Ochaco would look back to in her life and regret...in anime it felt much more rushed ) and Ochaco dismissed her. Most people would agree, including Ochaco that probably if she stayed to talk to Toga then, Toga would have not committed any future crimes and would most probably help out the heroes. Sure she d still go to prison, but the amount of damage would be much lesser. So one of the main reasons driving Ochaco is regret. Just like Shouto couldnt have moved on with his life if he didnt face Touya(even tho Touya was never his responsibility), Ochaco would not be able to move on with her life if she didnt hear Toga out. So simply put, Toga is Ochaco´s unfinished business, and she d not be able to move on if she didnt close this chapter properly

In case you still don't know, Ochako is voiced by Gabi. Also, I agree with you. Narratively, I feel like there needed to be more Toga & Ochako interactions to justify Ochako's intense affection. But it was still a pretty great moment though.

Toga and Ochaco are my favorite characters and this episode was so amazing, Horikoshi himself stated that Toga was a character made for Ochaco and Ochaco was developed to match Toga. Shortly they're soulmates, doesn't even have to be romantic. I think that Ochaco herself didn't really know why she was so drawn to Toga in the first place except the reasons she said in the episode. But one thing for sure is that they did this arc absolute justice, VAs killed it, music and visuals were awesome too

meiikao

The reason she felt so attached was because uraraka is a real hero who saves everyone. So when they fought in season 6 uraraka gave toga an answer that made her seem sad. She didn't know why and she realized toga might be evil cuz no one understands her so she wants to understand her so that toga doesn't feel like EVERYONE is telling her to be normal cuz to her it is normal. So she's truna get toga to understand that she'll be there for her and she don't have to do all this terrorist shit. Saving toga and everyone else.
