That Bit Extra—Bit of a long one…

I've talked a lot about all the variation going into Book Three, and how it's so much more than the other books. So I thought I'd show an example from Chapter 9 this month!

I hope it makes sense! :D I've tried to format it so it reads as smoothly as possible.

This is some of the variations that have gone into one of the choices in Chapter 9 (within another choice of where you get to pick from a selection of characters to talk to).

--

Choice: Nod. "The town needs to keep living, no matter what's going on."

I nod in slow agreement while glancing over the bustling Square. "The town needs to keep living. No matter what's going on."

"You mean the kidnapping?" Eric asks, his hands instinctually falling onto each of his daughters' shoulders.

-

(If MC has sarcastic personality and Verda knows about the Supernatural)

"Trapper kidnappings, Maa-alused illnesses, vampire killers…take your pick." My quip batters against Eric and has him dragging his daughters further against the safety of his legs.

Verda almost topples over as his expression drains. "This…supernatural world may be something you're used to, Detective, but we're not. Saying such things will only heighten the fear we already feel."

I purposefully look to Eric, a supernatural who is far more 'used to' it than I am.

He glances away with a cough and grasps his daughters closer to his legs.

-

(If MC has sarcastic personality and Verda doesn’t know about the supernatural)

"Kidnapping, weird illnesses, serial killers…take your pick." My quip batters against Eric and has him dragging his daughters further against the safety of his legs.

I pinch my lips together in apology as Verda rolls his eyes over towards me with a huff of breath.

"Detective [Surname] is, as usual, using their well-practiced talent of sarcasm and overdramatising the situation," Verda says, wrapping an arm around his husband. "Everything is fine."

Eric gives a nod and attempts to soften the tense lines cut across his expression.

But his hands continue to keep his daughters steady.

-

(If MC has stoic or intimidating personality)

Regret tightens through me as I glance at his unsteadiness.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned it," I murmur with a frown.

He breathes out some of his tension, releasing the protective hold he had on his daughters. "It's all right. I just…I'm glad you're helping with that investigation. Makes me feel safer. Doesn't it, Verda."

(...if Verda knows about the supernatural)

Verda doesn't reply.

Eric glances at me with a tight smile and a half-shrug of apology for his husband.

I just miss the time when Verda could look at me without withering with regret.

(...if Verda doesn’t know about the supernatural)

"You do realise I'm on the case too?" Verda asks with a chuckle.

"Of course," Eric says, planting a kiss on Verda's cheek. "But you're more…an indoor person. The Detective is out there searching for the culprit actively."

Verda crosses his arms with brows arched. "Oh really?"

Eric stumbles, clearing his throat. "I love you."

"You better," Verda replies with another soft laugh.

-

(If MC has other personality type and Verda knows about the supernatural)

"Oh, uh…yeah," I mumble, a slight strain of guilt tightening through me as Eric drags his kids further against the safety of him.

Verda shifts even further away from me to wrap an arm about Eric. "They meant kidnapping. Just the one."

The lie rolls easily from his tongue, much easier than I thought it would. Apparently, I still have things to learn about him.

If he'll let me.

I clear my throat. "Right. Just the one."

Eric's tension eases a little, but his hands remain on his daughters with a steady protectiveness that Adam/Ava would be proud of.

I always love writing this family, hehe! :D

So yeah, that's an example of the variations that I'm adding in. I really want the game to react to how your character is in the game, especially now they've had time to establish that personality by Book Three! It really should make the game feel so much more individual and personal to the type of story you are deciding to play!

The other personality types also have their moments, don't worry! This was just an example of some of the variations within one of the choices.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek! ;)

It's going to be interesting when that moment comes to light!

You know me by now, I love me some angst wherever I can fit it in, hehe! ;D

Oh wow that’s so much! I do hope Verda takes Eric’s Secret well… I want those two to be happy, darn it!

Nice variations. I do think you're a horrible sadist, though. As if Adam and Mason don't cause my MCs enough pain, here's Verda to pour some salt in the gaping wounds. I think my snarky detectives need to steer clear of Verda as much as possible!
