82 is still probably my favorite episode of the series, the colour pallet combined with the animation and the VA and the writing between shikamaru and his dad. There is no action but its just so good. There are several moments of this quality in the series and it just elevates the whole thing. But especially this moment is just so fcking real, I'd bet the majority of people have had this type of conversation with their parent (not this severe obviously) where they know exactly what to say to you and it pisses you the fck off in the moment but its exactly what you needed to hear. Its just the most believeable moment in the anime imo. Shikamaru hates himself because he blames himself for asumas death so he is disgusted at his dad for being proud of him, but dad is 100% right obviously, fck its a good moment. I could go on a whole rant about how well this moment is written but il stop here i'm happy nick appreciates it too. if only the other side characters got this treament eh:D

Kakashi learned from his mistake and recognised that it's not something you can simply talk someone out of, so instead he opted to supervise Shikamaru and his team so they don't go down the wrong path

The shogi scene with him and his father is beautiful and moving, and really cements that his father is one of the best anime dads to exist.

Sasuke has worst possible childhood with his brother pushing him on revenge path making him hateful, no wonder why he is destroyed in his head. All the more reason for Konoha and Kakashi to take care of him. The only one who truly understand and sympathies with Sasuke was Naruto not even most of the audience.

Shikamaru wants that person to be him, he doesn't want to loose anybody else. Kakashi knows that he is the number 1 in Konoha right now and that they really need his help, otherwise more Jonins or chunins will die. This is nothing like Sasuke.

As many times that I've seen this episode, I still tear up every time! But then I get pumped once Shikamaru gets down to business and figures out the plan!

2024-05-13 03:19:07 +0000 UTCand kakashi was also talking to a 12 year old sasuke back then that was just very emotional, shika is at least a level-headed chunin that actually has a team and a plan for how to complete this mission. *****SPOILER***** it is funny though considering how in a little bit we see that sasuke makes sure NOT to kill anyone except for itachi, so maybe if the leaf was originally supportive of his wanting to kill itachi things might've been better
