Idk if anyone said this yet, but two quick things: In volleyball, reaching 25 points isn't the only requirement for winning a set, you gotta score at least 25 points and have 2 point lead. (i.e. 25-23, 26-24, 27-25, etc...) And in volleyball, if your team was the last one to touch the ball and the ball falls out, then it's point for the other team (even if your team's last touch was a block touch).

Hey Nick and anyone who is watching Haikyuu along with Nick for the first time and doesn’t know much about volleyball, I highly recommend checking out Coach Donny from Elevate Yourself on YouTube. He has great reactions to Haikyuu that explain a lot of what’s going as a volleyball player and coach and he also has an artistic background as well so he often talks about the animation as well. I recommend watching his reactions to season 1 before getting into the OVA or season 2 if you’re still struggling with understanding the rules or just want a perspective from a real volleyball player. I’d just be careful if you watch his playlist of episode reactions cause he made a mistake early on and accidentally reacted to an episode of season 4 when he was still on season 1 so to avoid spoilers, make sure you skip the one marked season 4.

glad you liked this, Haikyuu along with Ping pong the animation are the best sports anime out there. And even some of the best anime out there in general. Haikyuu is an anime that makes your sad at times but you always end up with a bigger heart. There's no one you dislike even amongst opponents, lots of motivating but realistic moments, lots of suspense and joys, truly a feels good anime.

There is why Haikyuu is so loved and recommended by people. Even real volleyball players and Olympic players have watched it and loved Haikyuu.
Just saying. The Seijoh main coach wants players to look for solutions themselves when encountering one, that is why he doesn't say much unless they are stuck then will he step in.
Tsukishima did bow with his head, but he did not do a 45 degree bow like the rest.

One of the reasons why they have Shimada or whoever explaining volleyball stuff in the stands is to inform people that aren't familiar with volleyball the rules of the sport or the concepts of it or what's happening so people can understand

Couldn’t agree more! He doesn’t need to react to every single moment but just wish he didn’t force it. It’s actual getting uncomfortable, I really like Haikyu and excited to see Nick’s reaction but if he’s not enjoying it I rather he drop it and use that extra time to rest since he has plenty contents dropping already.

The one with glasses standing in the stand who teaches Yamaguchi jump float serve says they need 2 consecutive points to win the game (just when they tie over 24 points you can rewatch that part) . That's explicit enough for viewers to understand unless you talk over that part just like Nick lol

I'm happy nick is reacting to this but it's annoying that he misses all the small humor/comedy this show adds on. His reactions kinda looks forced and that he isn't really enjoying this anime and more focused on adding commentary that it's killing the beauty of this anime...
Personally, I'd rather him watch this alone and enjoy this anime than giving out forced reactions.

I’m not good enough to tell which is technically more correct, but translation is an art more than a science. These subtitles didn’t do as an effective job of conveying the meaning behind the words as well as others I’ve seen. So even if that Noya quote, which is also one of my favorites, isn’t technically accurate, it still is a better quote than what he said in this version.

They do explain it in the show. Nick just talks over it or forgets. That’s why so many people were complaining that the beginning was boring because they had to do double duty of explaining the rules and introducing the characters.

In volley, when you enter in "deuce" (like when they where 24/24) whoever surpasses the points by 2 is the winner, thats why they keep playing even when Karasuno was 24/25

Hey Nick. I know Crunchyroll has issues screenrecording but the subs from the site you're using feel like a completely different experience than Crunchyroll's, feels like a lot of meaning is lost in the deeper scenes. I can imagine it's a bitch to get working but if you ever manage, know that you'll be in for an even better experience :) Much love from Sweden, these reactions are goated and I'm so glad you like the anime!

Love your reaction and huge respect on the amount of contents you dropping but recently It felt like you are tired and forcefully to make it entertaint and joke too much at least it seems like that to me and kinda talk over too much. It is your content so I respect everything you drop but I think it will still be fun and entertaining to watch even if you dont keep yourself so hype up and just react to it genuinely. you are my favorite reacter but you are doin the same mistakes than most of the haikyu reacters. you dont understand the rules in some moments and you dont know what is going on or who gets the point. Just read yourself into the rules for 5 minutes, or watch a real game for 5 minutes, you and your viewers will enjoy it 1000 times more. I think that the sport makes the difference, football is so much bigger than voleyball, so people watch what they would watch in real life too. They are missing on an amazing anime, but maybe not understanding the sport in the first place makes it that they don't wanna watch it.

Haikyu is a really good show but some people prefer Blue Lock. It isn’t as cliché, it’s more unique and has its own twist on a sports anime which many do prefer. The Haikyu anime is definitely better but the Blue Lock manga definitely takes it. It is literally outselling and performing one piece, JJK and chainsaw man which is an incredible feat of itself.

2023-11-26 06:08:58 +0000 UTC
Tsukki didn’t “know to hit there cause of the way Kageyama set.” The opposite is true. Kageyama had previously been setting in a way to control the way the hitters hit the ball, which speaking from experience is incredibly annoying. Tsukki wanted a consistent set that didn’t force him to hit a certain way so he could slowly bait the Libero into getting out of position so he could hit the ball deep.
Plus the Kageyama/ Fish joke makes more sense on Crunchyroll cause they explain it better but basically tobiuo means flying fish so when Suga said Kageyama was like a fish in water, Yamaguchi and Tsukki imagined him as a flying fish cause his name is Tobio

Ah Haikyuu… even after reading the whole manga and watching very season multiple times I still get nervous and anxious when watching the matches. I know every match outcome but they do a great job at getting you wrapped up in the game that you feel like you’re there experiencing it with everyone. It just keeps getting better and better from here, I can’t wait for you to meet next seasons new characters.

Man the last episode got me. Best sports anime out of all the ones I’ve watched. This anime really shows you how great teamwork and perseverance can get you to greater heights even though sometimes you lose. But like sensei said, if they don’t get up then you’re proving your weak. Haikyu’s writer definitely knew what quotes and right words to say at any point of the show to inspire and motivate the teams. I love Haikyu man ❤️

"i dare somebody to name this entire team" you're right, i could never remember oikawa tooru, iwaizuumi hajime, matsukawa issei, hanamaki takahiro, watari shinji, kindaichi yuutaro & kunimi akira off the top of my head.
anyway, you're right, haikyuu definitely is a great introduction to sports anime. having watched a good handful of them i'd personally put it at the very top; it's beginner friendly, realistic in terms of the gameplay, and has a very well-written story & characters.
watching these 4 episodes back to back was DEFINITELY a good idea, and with the next one, that'll be season 1! reminder to watch the first OVA before starting season 2, there's a few different titles but as long as it has the name "Lev" in it, that's the right one.
i will say though that while it's definitely understandable why you're so hyped watching this series, you do seem to talk over quite a bit of what happens & dialogue...this may be "just" sports, but there's also lots of story and character development that you don't want to miss. and especially since you're not that familiar with the rules yet, i'd suggest at least pausing more often and/or rewinding when you comment on things.
hope you & live are having a lovely day/night!

number 4 is Hajime Iwaizumi or Iwa-chan he's the ace
number 6 is Shigeru Yahaba he's the other setter
number 7 Shinji Watari he's the libero
the others we know of (without spoiling members you havent seen) are :
