Personaly I would pay for a zaer comic, let him go though a situation that makes him understand the situation gervic went throught . Alternatively a fourth wall break where the actors discuss the scene .

He couldve fought and or died doing his duty. But instead chose to leave them be. In a way, this may be mercy or some deeper respect. Like a last will for the commander he once knew. OoO. Somber. But i think it is fitting. Hoping the both Gervic and Vlagg will find peace. OoO
