Advice for new mommies on positioning your baby for the best possible breastfeeding experience.
1st photo example of “Cradle hold”- this hold is where you hold the baby across the lap cradling them in your arms while supporting their little necks and bringing them gently to your breast for easy feeding. This position makes it easy for the baby to latch properly. This position is one of the most common positions and can help bring your babies mouth up to your breast.
2nd photo- tandem nursing while holding baby in a football hold. This is where the babies body is facing opposite direction cradled in one arm always supporting the head neck shoulder and body. This position is often used when recovering from a cesarean section also known a C-section or for women with a larger sized breast. It is also used for easier tandem nursing especially with twins or multiple birth feedings.
These two positions are best used when in an upright seated position. It is best to experiment with different holds to find what works best for you and your baby.
Always remember to support the head neck and shoulder as well as the body of the baby when holding the baby for a feeding. Using different positioning can enhance the letdown and maximize milk extraction to keep your milk supply stable for your growing child. Don’t forget to smile and laugh with your baby as this helps your supply stay abundant and helps you bond with your beloved infant. Happy feedings!
