When you have twins or two children at the same time who want to nurse, this is the absolute best way to keep an abundant milk supply for your children!
Even if you don’t have twins, the children, nursing together makes the body believe that they are twins and it produces more milk on both sides to have more milk to feed your children.
The more milk out the more milk comes in. Having both children and nursing at the same time, takes the milk out all at once making the breast produce more milk faster.
If you only feed one at a time and they go back-and-forth between each breast, it doesn’t get the milk out at the same time which takes longer for your feeding, and it also takes longer for the breast to make more milk.
By feeding the children together, at the same time, there can be some challenges like sibling rivalry for whichever child prefers which side, and sometimes there can be some physical altercations with the children trying to hit each other or push each other away from mommy. This can be a time to teach the children to keep their hands to themselves and how to handle stressful situations of sibling rivalry and jealousy.
When teaching the child that the mother loves them equally, and never favoring, either one of the children they will always feel loved and appreciated, having a much happier family situation and breastfeeding sessions.
If this is too much, it is totally fine to nurse each child separately or individually but tandem nursing can be a great way to keep an abundant milk supply making plenty of nourishing and filled with antibodies breastmilk to keep your growing family, healthy and happy!
Don’t forget that each feeding from the breast actually build their immune systems. There is no formula on the planet that can identically replicate breastmilk! Breastmilk will always be the best milk!
