This post is for educational purposes only. This shows the breast before a feeding and after a feeding. If you noticed that before feeding the nipple is soft the veins aren’t as noticeable and the areola is a lighter color also the nipple does not have discoloration. After a feeding The nipple can have a white slightly painful at times discoloration and this is called a vasospasm. Some women do not get these some women do and it is normal. A breast-feeding woman tends to have more prominent veins on the breast and chest area due to the blood flow the breast needs in order to produce the milk. These prominent veins will protrude during and after a feeding as the blood flow increases to allow the milk to come out of the breast which is called “the letdown.” After a baby weans from breastfeeding these prominent veins may lighten up and not be as noticeable.
