TalKing of the Hill - Pregnant Paws
Added 2023-02-20 05:05:00 +0000 UTC
On this month's installment of TalKing of the Hill we're bringing you a tale of love, puppies, and tubes that desperately need to be loosened. As the clock ticks down on Ladybird's biological clock, Hank pulls out all the stops to get his beloved dog pregnant. But with all of his attention focused on his dear pup, are Peggy's needs in the doghouse? Listen in and, as an added challenge, see if you can spot all 15 seconds of William H. Macy's performance!
Editor's Note: We're skipping Peggy's Headache on this miniseries since we already covered it on What A Cartoon way back in 2018. If you'd like to hear our thoughts on that episode, please check out the original post.
We still get the phone book here in the Portland area and when my daughter was younger and she first found out what they were she thought it was really creepy that you could just look up anybody and call them.

Excited about the reboot, but still no sign of King of the Hill streaming on Disney Plus (or anywhere else) in the UK.
Has anyone heard any info about this? Thanks. đ

Iâve got to respectfully disagree on the reboot. As someone who is now seeing KotH all the way through with his fiance for the first time, this is such a time capsule that canât be recaptured. Let it stay dead gracefully - weâve got 250+ episodes already.

Re: the gay guys, I am more inclined to agree with Bob. The gay guys donât think Hank is propositioning him. They realize heâs not aware theyâre a couple. But Iâm taking him to the gay bar, I donât think theyâre doing it to watch the hetero square freak out. Theyâre just choosing the place they know without considering Hankâs hang ups. Theyâre not setting him up so much as theyâre just not editing to suit Hank.

Kevin Pollak *is* everywhere to the point that I recently/accidentally rode the Simpsons ride with him. I did not make eye contact but did subsequently make Twitter contact with him.

Not to insert but I was the one who volunteered that Kahn should die. And I donât take it back.

I've def seen the "toy breed" thing -- not with big dogs like Ladybird which I've seen as more of a macho hetero stereotype
(I understand the gay couple in this ep had to have a breed that's big enough to mount a bloodhound, for the purpose of the scene. Also the KotH writers wouldn't do an easy gay stereotype like giving them a purse dog)

Back in the '90s especially it was seen as a stereotype of affluent white gays, usually with a smaller or "toy" dog breed to emphasize their effeminacy. Scott and Stefan in Best In Show are a classic example of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_yiqAYKa3A - Henry

Absolutely did not clock William H. Macy as being in this episode so when I saw his name in the credits I was taken aback

I am going to have to go with Henryâs idea about the two gay guys
However, I think they might be curious, and there seems to be a good way to test it, but they wouldnât even bother testing it if they werenât interested in Hank in the first place

Henryâs comment about Dalmatian set off a random dog fact.
Dalmatians weâre for a long time considered a âdumbâ dog breed but it turns out that poor breeding practices made deafness in the breed more prevalent than in other ones.
They werenât dumb they just couldnât hear!
Dalmatians from properly bred lines are just as intelligent as other dogs.
Also just get a mutt, breeds are made up pseudoscience that stems from the same people that brought you phrenology.
Yes certain lineages have traits bred into them but itâs nowhere as exact a science as the breeders would lead you to believe.

Arlen is NOT in Southwest TX. It is near-ish Abilene TX. A few different people have done the work to triangulate the location (as close as the show's consistency will allow) and it's somewhere around/between Abilene and Waco.

Also I agree with Bob re: the gay joke. They aren't assuming Hank is gay (they just wanted to be nice and helpful) and they clearly know he's unaware of them being a couple because he calls them brothers and they give each other a knowing look of "oh man this guy is so dumb." They probably took him to a gay bar without telling him what it is because it was so funny to them that he's so dense
(Is a guy caring a lot about his dog a gay stereotype?? I've seen the "only a gay guy would have a cat" stereotype)

CORRECTION: I didn't say I want Kahn dead/for Minh to be widowed. I don't know who did but I def don't want that character to be written off -- he's like my favourite character! He could easily be recast.

I didn't know about what heat entailed for a dog either until I was older. I can recall being in elementary school and one of my friends complaining about his dog getting blood in his room because she was in heat. The funny thing was, I don't think he actually knew what was going on either because I remember him saying she threw up blood. Maybe she did, but I'm guessing she did the butt scoot and he just didn't know where the blood was actually coming from. I'd be curious to know if he came to that conclusion on his own or if a parent just didn't want to explain it and said it came out of her mouth. And yes, it is far more expensive to spay a dog or cat than it is to neuter. When I got my cat almost 15 years ago, I was hoping to get a male for that reason but all the shelter had were females. Snipping off the male parts is not very invasive, but a spaying is invasive surgery and at the time it was close to $400 I think. I'm guessing, like all things, it's more expensive now than it was back then. Most shelters make it a requirement to adopt too and some cover it which is just another reason why it's always best to adopt and not shop.

I would ordinarily be very wary of the reboot (especially considering we had more King of the Hill than I'd ever have hoped in its original run) but the quality of the new Beavis and Butthead has me airing on the side of optimism. Luanne was the favorite character of both my wife and I, so I would hate for her to be entirely absent as long as the writing is true to her character. You're right that Tom Petty being dead as well does throw a bit of a wrench in whatever you do with that couple. More than anything i'm always happy when Kathy Najimy gets paid to save her from doing more Hocus Pocus movies. Peggy Hill has always been one of the funniest characters to me and never understood the hate for her. The deevolution of tv has meant that younger audiences can't accept that unlikable characters can be funny/interesting.
On the topic of the rainbow bridge, I hadn't heard about it until I was a teen and we had cremated our family dog. Along with the ashes, the vet's office had included this laminated sheet that was basically "rainbow bridge lore" explaining what it is and that someday when YOU TOO go to heaven, your pet will meet you there. All I could think was "what if you go to Hell?"

I believe mike judge has said he would want to move the characters forward in time. I would bet my bottom dollar Luanne and Lucky will have passed away in a tragic mud truckin' or stumpin' accident and hank and peggy will raise Gracie as her adoptive parents and the first episode will be dedicated to tom petty and brittany murphy . Gracie will be our gen z pov, Hank's den will be FULLY converted to her room.
My other predictions are absolutely less likely but feel true to the characters . Bobby will be a failed millenial brooklyn comedian pushed out of new york by the housing crisis. his arc will be him becoming a renowned pit boss/podcaster . Connie will be a bored STEM phd returning to her roots because she finds her career tedious and empty, finding her new cause at home. Maybe finding value in itchy algae. Joseph's best friend since they left will be Chane Wassanasong they will both work as car salesman for Lane Pratley being hometown heros who never left and have to find purpose in texas after the glory of highschool football.
