Talk to the Audience?!? - May 2022

I thought your guys comments about the prestige content bubble were apt, though I think you were just scratching the surface. Think any medium and there has never been even a fraction of so much accessible content available for so negligible a price. The patreon model might soon be the only way creators can earn a living, if it hasn’t reached that point already.

Sorry you were lukewarm on My Blue Heaven. It's a cult fave in my family. You're spot on about the miscasting of Martin and his wild attempt at an accent, but I think that's one of the film's great charms. You could maybe get the guy like the cop from So I Married an Axe Murderer/Empire Records, but most actual Italian American actors I can think of would come off too menacing to play a scamp.

You guys killed Ray Liotta. I hope you are happy with yourselves.

Can’t wait for that next poll, Rescuers Down Under!

To be honest, I don't think there's anything I can add that WOFF didn't say in their excellent podcast. I played it back in the day and gave up about halfway through because it got WAY too difficult. Maybe if there's ever a rerelease we can find some way to talk about it. - Bob

Talking Simpsons

I actually sponsored the WOFF episode on Hit & Run you guys mentioned. While I absolutely love the game to death (I play it to 100% completion at least yearly), their critique was entirely correct and fair. It's a time capsule of the early 2000s, both culturally and in terms of game design. The difficulty in particular is baffling towards the end; it genuinely is one of the most unforgiving games I've played that isn't intentionally trying to make you rip your hair out. Still, it so perfectly captures the tone and feel of the show that I've keep coming back to it for nearly 2 decades. If you guys would be up for covering the game in detail (a backdoor Retronauts perhaps), I'd be happy to sponsor the show. That Simpsons game Retronauts episode Bob recorded as 1up was in its death throes is one of the single most replayed audio files on my phone, and I'd love to hear your contemporary, more analytical Talking Simpsons approach applied to Hit & Run. You guys obviously have a lot on your plates, but if you're interested, just let me know.

Being a Pittsburgh guy, I’ve been to Youngstown countless times and had been fascinated by the Foster Theater too. There were some really cool photos of it for sale at the Canfield Fair that I really wanted to grab. Cool to see the ins and out of this place as I am way too much of a wimp to ever set foot in such a place.

That cameo with the theme riff isn't really a spoiler, they spoiled it in the trailer. The one Henry spoke about however, surprised me

As always, thanks for taking the time to read my comments, fellas. Sort of adjacent to my comment about the impressionable nature of "Bart the Murderer," I'm not sure if you saw, but Super7 had to send out an email to everyone who ordered their upcoming Krusty the Clown figure because Disney made them remove the cigarette accessories that were to come with the figure. From what I've been able to gather, the figure was approved by the team responsible for Simpsons licensing, but once it went to Disney for final approval before production was to begin they nixed it. Not a surprise to me as I'm aware that Disney is staunchly opposed to depictions of tobacco use, but certainly a bummer. Apparently they're fine with Duffman though.

Wonderful to hear you guys doing so well. Before you release the roger rabbit post movie podcast mention the rescue rangers movie that came out this week

Springton is getting an encore finally

Nice to see spikermonster get a shout-out! I've been following his art for a while now, and it's so cool seeing him get this opportunity to use the designs they created in the show! As someone who's never really liked the frozen time nature of the series, his "Those Springfield Kids" webcomic and its version of the older characters is a lot of fun to read through. There's even some fun Skinner/Chalmers banter in it! I appreciate your comments on that GQ article and Stan Lee interviews - as a Beatles fan, you face the same problem of someone like Paul McCartney just getting asked the same questions over and over, and thus you just get the same few stock stories, i.e. "oh I met John Lennon at the village fete in 1957". Happy to also see a TheRealJims shout-out - you should reach out to him on twitter, I'd love to see him as a guest on the show! He's more positive about modern Simpsons, so he'll offer a really fun perspective instead of the usual "when I fell off and it sucks now" story from guests.
