Vote On The May 2021 What A Cartoon Movie!

It's another new month, meaning tons more stuff is coming to the Talking Simpsons Network! As we enter April (and while still appreciating Nina Matsumoto's excellent art above), we're on track for another of our monthly $10 premium podcast, and we'll need your help to decide what we'll be covering in May.

Currently, we're so far ahead in podcast recordings that we've already recorded April's What A Cartoon Movie! (Shrek), meaning that in April we have enough extra time to record our May 2021 movie podcast, and we can start on that as soon as you choose the subject for us!

Just FYI: For those of you who are new to the Talking Simpsons Patreon, WELCOME. Also, you should know that once a month we release the What A Cartoon Movie! podcast, an extra-long discussion about an animated feature film, exclusively for our $10+ Patreon subscribers. And when we open up the voting for each month's subject, we want all the $5 subscribers to also have a chance to be heard too, so those subscribers can help pick episodes they might enjoy down the line!

Our next 2021 poll explores a subject we love: Live action/animation hybrids (and no Roger Rabbit because we want to save that for a special time in the future)!

So here are the four live action hybrids you'll be voting on:

Casper (1995), the Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman starring adaptation of the Harvey comic book starring America's favorite dead little boy!

Cool World (1992), the Ralph Bakshi film starring Kim Basinger, Gabriel Byrne and Brad Pitt that found a femme fatale even hornier than Jessica Rabbit!

Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), the Space Jam follow-up starring Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman that Joe Dante and Eric Goldberg hoped would entertain Chuck Jones!

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000), the forgotten moose & squirrel adaptation that brought the toons together with Robert De Niro, Jason Alexander, and Rene Russo!

So please, make your choice known before the poll closes on the night of April 7! Thanks as always for your continued support of our podcasts, we couldn't keep discussing movies without you!

Comments

I voted for Casper because I momentarily mixed up Cool World with Monkey Bone, and thought "Dear Lord, what have I done?" And then was very relieved to see that Cool World was in the lead.

We’re finally covering a Ralph Bakshi film, and it’s Cool World. I think it’s fair...Cool World was my first Ralph Bakshi movie, too

Alex Irish

Leonard Maltin is forced to denigrate competitors to Joe Dante movies ever since he sicced his gremlins on him.

Mike Mariano

gutted to see Three Caballeros erasure (the first full length 2D/3D blend IIRC?) but I’ll begrudgingly vote for Cool World instead

bansheebeat

I hope cool world or casper wins. They would make good podcasts. Feel like the other two would be boring.

Michael Branson

If cool world wins I will 100% go in at the $10 level even if it's just for one month. What an insane movie.

Seth Short

I will pay good money for you to do a deep dive into Balshi's Lord of the Rings adaptation. Along with Titan A.E. it is one of animation's greatest ambitious failures.

Stephen C. Nedell

I’m not surprised Cool World is leading, but I am by how much. But Casper is beating Back in Action!? Insane. Leonard Maltin recommends it for braindead children.

Thad Komorowski

I’m bummed people aren’t voting for rocky and bullwinkle. I think that is the most fascinatingly bad and entertaining out of the bunch. I need to hear Bob and Henry discuss the Kenan and Kel cameo

The making of side of Cool World is much more interesting than the movie itself. Should make for a good podcast at least. It’s one of my least favorite Bakshi films; Monkeybone is a much more successfully executed Cool World IMHO. Still rooting for Back in Action.

Brian Hortin

I grew up with Looney Tunes Back in Action, so I kinda want it to win. Cool World would be a fun one though. I’m sure that film has an *interesting* behind the scenes

Tashmon Dimps

voting for Casper just to hear Bobs take on the seemingly horrific life the ghosts had before they died

mavrick

Cool World will probably make for the best podcast, but Back in Action is extremely slept on.
