Talk to the Audience?!? - April 2020

Another month has passed, so it's time once again for another episode of our community podcast! This time, we cover plenty of Simpsons news, like the grand arrival of the 4:3 aspect ratio on Disney+, a brand-new A.V. Club interview with longtime show runner Al Jean, the recently discovered Krustygate scandal in Who Shot Mr. Burns Part 1, and more! Plus, as always, we respond to your questions and comments from the last month of episodes. Keep hanging in there, and always remember to bless the wives!

Late to comment but congrats Bob and Nina! 🎉

Days late but comparing yourself to Ditko is possibly the worst look for anyone not named Zach Snyder

Hey Bob, I hope you and Nina can reunite soon! That's tough. My wife is German, and there have been times apart, always tough. But, together now in Munich. I hope all the best!

CONGRATS BOB & NINA!! 🍾🎉 I hope you can have an awesome wedding soon!

Better post this before I forget - That William Costello singing "The Merry Go Round Broke Down" in his Popeye Voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_2cHe5uNQM --- A correction on my comment. The record is labeled as "The Original Pop-Eye the Sailor". Still, no image of the character, and what an odd hyphenate - I still say this is skirting copyright law, and definitely not licensed. King Features Syndicate would never pass up an opportunity to cram their name on there.

Great show, loved it so much Bob and Henry! Not to keep throwing gas on this fire, but maybe there is an inside reference to the "Homer Shot (Mr Burns) First" theory in "Revenge is a Dish Best Served Three Times" S18E11 (which is not on Frinkiac). If you see this clip, Homer is kind of admitting he shot Mr. Burns and framed Maggie... (https://youtu.be/FKGB0iGgcDE?t=79) Of course, it's a joke and perhaps non-canonical, but maybe someone was having some fun with this goof up.

I love that channel, especially the whole "Who Really Shot Mr Burns?" series. ^_^

First: thank you for reading my comment and attempting to pronounce my very difficult last name (I probably should just go with an easier user name). Second: So excited (and frustrated) for Bob and Nina! It’s not even close to the same but my boyfriend’s upcoming planned proposal (which I’m led to believe will be at least onion-ring caliber) was also put on hold due to the pandemic (thus, keeping me stuck with this difficult last name for a while longer.)

You guys don't remember the Crab Juice fad of 2010?

Micah

You guys are right about the animation industry, it is basically the sole survivor of the entertainment industry currently. My work has continued completely unabated during this. I already switched to being a remote animator a couple years ago and would call in for dailies. The only difference is now EVERYONE is calling in for dailies meetings. Btw, Dave Filoni also was a layout and storyboard artist on King of the Hill Season 3 and had an anecdote of drawing all the cast as Star Wars characters while on staff at KOTH. Also, I fucking hated Daren the DARE lion, for obvious reasons.

Agreed, can’t see any other reason (as shocking as it is)

Big fan of TheRealJims' videos, both Simpsons and his Pixar series. I would definitely recommend them to Bob and Henry along with any other listeners, if you haven't watched them yet.

No. They abso-fucking-lutely included that episode because of the 9/11 conspiracy. They knew what they were doing.

Thad Komorowski

The whole Krusty with the painted on nose thing was brought up by TheRealJims on youtube during one of his (largely for fun) Simpsons Mysteries videos. I don't know if he's the originator of this theory, but that's where I first saw it, and that wasn't a new video at all, the latest part in the series being 2 years old. It's interesting to see that "theory" gain enough traction to be debunked officially.

The whole "Simpsons Predict" thing being on Disney+ is also kinda weird to me because I've seen people take the idea so far as to suggest that these "predictions" are both deliberate and a part of this big conspiracy where Groening knows the future and all of this proves some kind of deep state Qanon shit - it feels weird for DISNEY, even just a division, to be promoting an idea that leads down such weird fringe rabbit holes, but I guess that's been the internet for a while now.
