I think a good question is "Were you the Kevin or the Andy in your brotherly relationship?" My oldest brother and I have a similar gap as Andy and Kevin - he's eight years older than I, and he was my cool GenX older brother with me as the Millenial dorko. It wasn't as adversarial, but I see the parallels. Though I realized as I grew up from a teen into a twentysomething that I changed from a Kevin into an Andy so gradually I didn't even notice. Blame college!

Hey, kind of an OT question, but I remember Matthew Jay mentioning a animation documentary that he recommended, does anyone know which one it was? This was on the "The Day the Violence Died" Talking Simpsons ep, but I've been scrolling around like crazy on that ep trying to find the mention of a documentary, without luck.

Given the fact that I've been listening to Talking Simpsons since day one, I've heard a lot about Mission Hill, but I'd never actually watched it until it was time to do so for this miniseries, and so far I'm having a blast. My DVD set has yet to arrive (supposed to come by next Friday), so I watched this episode on YouTube, not knowing about the music rights issues, but I think the version I watched had the correct, original licensed music? Not totally sure though, and in any case, I'll have to check out if I can find the original versions of other eps since you guys pointed out stuff like the "Everybody Hurts" bit that will just make no sense to me on DVD without context. Looking forward to digging into more of this!

In Canada we claim we have girlfriends and boyfriends in England. But god damn I love Mission Hill, it hit me right at the perfect time. I was not a complete dorko like Kevin but not a complete wasteoid like Andy. That loft, amazing. That thing could cost thousands of dollars these days, and probably not even inhabited just as an investment.

Loved this show back when it was on Teletoon’s late night programming block. I never knew that Bill and Josh were involved with this show back in the day, but looking back on it, it definitely makes sense. Really looking forward to the rest of the series! Also you were totally right, Kevin would be “owning the libs with facts and logic” if this show were set in the last five years.

There was something very off-putting about this show for me when it first premiered that caused me to turn up my nose and ignore it. To be fair, I wasn't invested in much TV at the time and would rather be playing video games, but I obviously regretted my past choice when I finally gave it a chance on Cartoon Network. I was a bit disappointed though to find the Mission Hill depicted in the show doesn't really resemble the Mission Hill of Boston. Though to be fair, that place kind of sucks anyway so I suppose it's for the better. This podcast series is a good excuse to revisit the show.

I'm 4 min to the podcast and I must relate; Bob, my best friend growing up forced me to listen to music he recorded onto tapes from the radio - all the 90's alternative hits. To be honest, I didn't really get it.

This is one of those shows that I saw on TV on rare ocassions, but never became a full-blown fan until I binge watched the entire series on YouTube in college like I did with Duckman and The Critic.

I'm so thrilled you guys finally get to cover this show! Mission Hill has always been one of my favorite shows ever. I always identified with it in a lot of the white-bread ways you guys described and the show was very formative for my tastes in animation, viewing and career-wise in general. All the original work I ever did had an undercurrent, either intentional or not from this show. I first saw this show when it reran on Adult Swim when I was 13. Liked how you guys mentioned how Andy should have been the one getting Kevin into music. My half-brother is 13 years older than me and when I was around the age this show was airing, he gave me tons of ripped CDs and hard drives of music. I'm still a huge fan of bands like Cake and TMBG because of that. Quick anecdote with other staff that worked on this show! Dave Filoni of Clone Wars, also carried on from this show onto Avatar: The Last Airbender. He's an alumni of my college and spoke there in 2009 while I was attending. I asked him in the seminar about Mission Hill and he was surprised anyone would bring it up but was excited to talk about how much he enjoyed his time on the show. I believe (it's been a while) he mentioned being involved in storyboarding the opening credits. And because I've always obsessed over fictional layout, Posey's room is located to the right of the bathroom door. It's a windowless room, like Jim and Kevin's. You only see it in the SAT episode, when she is advertising massage in the paper. I always loved their loft apartment and know I could never afford to live in one.
