Chosen by one of our premium Patreon subscribers, we get neo-retro with a Mickey Mouse holiday special on this week's podcast! Yes, we go into the history of how Paul Rudish and his team reshaped Disney's mascot for the 2010s, and we go through the season adventure of the Xmas special, Duck The Halls! So get festive and listen now!
This show actually sounds really fun and it's super disappointing that it's not on Disney+ because we can't fucking watch Disney Now in Canada and Google Play/ YouTube won't let you rent episodes anymore. THANKS DISNEY

Some of my favorite episodes of the shorts are the international ones.
The language is actually in the language spoken in the country they are in
Like the China one they speak I want to say mandarin
The one in India they speak hindi
Etc etc

I've enjoyed some of the Rudish shorts so I wanted to watch this, but looks like there's absolutely no way outside of the US. Oh well, I listened to this ep anyway, because that's my modern equivalent of reading strategy guides about video games I don't have!

I like when “joy to the world” starts playing the lyrics stop before the Jesus lines begin

I can't hear discussion on KH3 voice acting (especially regarding Donald) without thinking just how sore Tony Anselmo's throat had to be after recording for it. It's not a voice that's meant to be performed in four hour sessions.

Great episode as always, especially for the start of the holiday season. You are right that Santa's design in this cartoon is based on a Disney cartoon from the 30s. Namely the 1932 Silly Symphony "Santa's Workshop" and it's 1933 sequel, "The Night Before Christmas." I recognized that design immediately thanks to me being both an old cartoon fanatic as well as a Christmas weirdo like Bob.

A good choice for December! I was hoping you guys would do DuckTales - "Last Christmas" as it's a really fun, well done, episode of the show and it features a wonderful Russi Taylor role, but this is a nice consolation. I love Donald so I love this cartoon by default, and I love how the performance of Tony Anselmo deteriorates with the character onscreen. And then you get the blasphemous Jesus Donald during the climax which is perfect. I don't really like Funko Pop figurines, but if they made a Donald from that sequence I'd probably have to buy it.
I am hopeful Disney will continue to add shorts to Disney+. They really should add "Toy Tinkers" but if it isn't up now it might not be coming. "Runaway Brain" is an obvious want too and I think it has a shot around Halloween as those who considered it improper at the time might not even be with the company any longer. They haven't exactly buried it either as it was included on Mickey Mouse: In Living Color Volume 2 with a full introduction from Leonard Maltin that doesn't really discuss the controversy surrounding it (which isn't very exciting anyway, some people just didn't like the Monster Mickey). And if my kids are any indication, they don't find it scary and my son especially loves it. "Get a Horse!" was also a nice surprise before Frozen when I saw that with my wife in in the theater. I wish it worked as well on a TV as it did in a theater, but it's still a ton of fun. It actually did not win the Academy Award though, but it was nominated.
