Now at four movies (and possibly counting), the Toy Story series wasn't always a certified mega-hit—in fact, the first film barely crossed the finish line! On the newest episode of What A Cartoon Movie! join us as we examine the wild history of Pixar and the tortured production of their first movie, and give our usual detailed, scene-by-scene walkthrough of the whole shebang. Toy Story might be nearly 25 years old, but hopefully you'll be as surprised as us at how well this crusty old computer creation holds up!

2019-12-13 19:07:26 +0000 UTCI watched Toy Story 1 & 2 a lot as a kid on VHS but hadn't seen them in over a decade, and never watched Toy Story 3, so this summer I watched the three of them in a couple of days to prepare to go see 4 and as a "franchise" this might be my favourite Disney thing (that they had a hand in releasing originally, so discounting anything Marvel/ Star Wars/Fox etc) even if it doesn't contain my individual favourite Disney movie. The first two still hold up really well and it's great seeing the escalation of scope and storytelling as the technology advances, but going back to the first one afterward is fun to see how reigned in it is. Great episode!
