Hey this was rad! You guys are on in a really great groove of wonderful content! The whole last month and half worth of episodes have been really fun and you can tell you guys are just having a blast making these!
Waking Sleeping Beauty is rad! And the filmmaker Don Hahn is a really great dude, I got to chat with him when he screened the film here a few years ago. He’s a really great dude and I think if you reached out to him he’d talk to you.
Don should have in all honesty should’ve have been given the job of head of Disney Animation, instead of John L, who I’m going to say is the reason Don left Disney animation — and why lilo & stitch Director Chris sanders left Disney — I’m sure more of these stories will start coming out. I’m really looking forward to his next film, Howard, about the legendary songwriter, Howard Ashmen, which Disney Plus has announced for the near future.
But wait! I recommend the flip side to waking sleeping beauty, which is Dream on Silly Dreamer, which chronicles the end of Disney animation and the closing of the Florida Studio and the end of traditional animation. It was not made by Disney so it should be easily found. There’s also the Sweatbox, about the production of emperors new groove, made by Sting’s wife (which was part of his agreement to do the film) which highlights Disney at its most producer heavy and there’s scenes of the animators basically being bullied by execs— this film was buried by Disney so it’s harder to find.
